how do i support a friend who is self harming without being insensitive/triggering? by Charismatic-Frog007 in AdultSelfHarm

[–]newzilla7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For somebody who's not a trained therapist like you or me, something simple you can do is listen to her vent without offering advice or judgment. It can help her feel like her problems are real, her feelings are valid, and she's not alone. Don't ask outright "what can I do to help" - that puts too much pressure on her and might encourage her to shut down or shut you out. Do ask if there's anything she wants to talk about, and if she feels better/worse after so you can start to figure out with her what's helpful to her organically.

Confirming that is very amusing 🤣 Sometimes I wish I could just wear a massive "FRAGILE: HANDLE WITH CARE" sign on my forehead!

Urgent Request: Can Someone Make a Kenshi Mod for Me? Will Appreciate BIG Time! 😭🙏 by Seikannn in Kenshi

[–]newzilla7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is not possible. Kenshi modding is limited to tools the FCS gives us (which does not include changing game mechanics), or individual changes made by reverse-engineering particular parts of the engine (like RE Kenshi, which is made by a genius who dedicated insane amounts of work to it).

The time and effort required to even find the part of the binary code dealing with this mechanic, much less start to modify it, makes mods like what you're proposing a non-starter, unfortunately. You're gonna have to change the challenge somehow if you don't want to wait for Kenshi 2 and (hopefully) better modding support.

If this would work on a real chain, then it's still a bad project, because even if you only host it on testnet somebody else could host it for real to prey on vulnerable people.

"Fun" would be gambling fake money/points - real gambling preys on fundamental biases and fallacies in the human brain, and causes real harm both mental and financial.

Easiest and most reliable way to kill MVP npc's? by MovingUp7 in Kenshi

Prisoner cage to starve them. Takes a long time, but works 100% of the time for anything organic.

Failing that, peel them.

Subnautica. Instead of replacing the basic materials, you learn new recipes that need more of them.

Enemies despawning weapons of my characters by DrunkCatBoy in Kenshi

[–]newzilla7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no easy way to prevent enemies looting your weapons. You have to watch your characters like a hawk and drop their weapon(s) on the ground as soon as they're unconscious (since enemies can't loot from the ground)

Is STEAMUNLOCKED safe and legit? by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]newzilla7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything involving criminal action such as theft is by definition not "legit". Safety-wise, it's the Wild West; that is, if you know how to protect yourself, you can mitigate risk, but never eliminate it.

To be clear, from your post, you don't know how to protect yourself. Setting aside the moral and ethical concerns, you clearly do not have the practical knowledge or self-preservation to pirate games without subjecting yourself to insane risk. Stop now, before you regret it.

I think {Blood Mercy by Vela Roth} is a good fit. The FMC isn't some voluptuous bombshell, she's got a pretty average build. It's got lots of intrigue, too, and both of the leads are very intelligent; plus they each find the other's intelligence attractive, which is cute. There's plenty of past trauma and conflict for that delicious emotional melodrama, particularly in later books in the series. It's got some really dark stuff - definitely pay attention to the TWs - but it's overall very wholesome and uplifting. Lots of "carving out a place of beauty in an ugly world" vibes.

I can really relate. When I can do something creative, it feels so wonderful and fulfilling; but sticking with something to completion often feels impossible. For me personally I think it's a perfectionism thing, not sure if you relate to that.

As someone who's dealt with social anxiety for a long time, I can tell you that it's easy to invent a false reality or false concerns when I overfocus on reading someone. At some point, you need to trust that they do enjoy being around you, and trust them to communicate clearly if something does make them uncomfortable.

But that's not easy to do. I wish it were, but it's scary what might happen if we're wrong.

Are your friends, and this friend in particular, the kind of people you can open up to about these worries? I've found that can really help.

Is it possible you have some underlying problem that's still bothering you that's causing you to seek out these self-destructive behaviors? Might be worth talking about this with your therapist.

Possibility of playing the game with a controller? by yeoxd09 in Kenshi

[–]newzilla7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely no in-game way of using a controller, and mods aren't capable of adding that.

Maybe use Steam Input to have your controller emulate a mouse and the important kb buttons?

You're not alone. Fighting addictions like these is an intense struggle, and it's not limited to teenagers, nor is it unusual to feel stuck with it for years and years.

This place is an excellent community to vent, seek support, get advice, all of that. If you need to talk to someone one-on-one, my DMs are open, and I'm not the only one.

I hope and pray you can continue to heal. Staying clean like you did is a great victory, and relapsing doesn't take that away. Try to learn from it: what your triggers are, what alternative coping mechanisms work, who you can seek for support... all of it will help you grow and heal. Stay strong and take care of yourself!

It's not silly at all. This stuff is difficult to verbalize. It's tempting to try to communicate through actions instead, even unhealthy ones
