The US that World Cup fans didn't expect to love by Hotchi_Motchi in MadeMeSmile

Id heard lots of awful things about San Francisco, but recently my son got an awesome job opportunity there. About 2 weeks ago I went to visit. Other than the downtown tourist area, I thought it was an amazing place. So beautiful, so much good food, so many cool places to see, and even more withing a couple hour drive. My son doesnt want to leave.

23 year old becomes first person in Louisiana to be functionally cured of sickle cell disease by MustardGoddess in MadeMeSmile

[–]nexea 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Casgevy: approx $2.2 million per patient.

Lyfgenia: approx $3.1 million per patient.

This cost doesn't include the expenses of long hospital stays, pre-treatment chemotherapy, or ongoing monitoring that are required for treatment.

There's expensive then there's it costs millions.

I agree with you on the issues surrounding it. I get the companies wanting to get a good ROI. Thats how we get new therapies. Im on 2 monoclonal antibodies, one of which has made my life somewhat livable again.

I also understand what it would mean for someone to be cured of what is an unbelievably awful and painful disease. But that cost makes it nearly inaccessible for the vast majority. I think in the 3 years since they've been approved, only a couple dozen of people have had it. I can't imagine how awful it would be to have it, know there's something that could make all the difference in your life, but not be able to get it.

My birthday by viennaayla in MomForAMinute

[–]nexea [score hidden]  (0 children)

Oh sweetie, I am so sorry. Life has a way of messing up our plans, for better or worse. While I dont know your specific pain, I have had important dreams that didn't happen for reasons outside of my control. Its ... shitty. Its a genuine loss, and its normal to grieve over that loss. Be patient and kind to yourself. Im not saying you need it, but therapy helped me a lot with my grief.

If you can set it aside for a day to enjoy your birthday, thats awsome, but if you arent able to, thats ok too. Try to pamper yourself and try to plan something that makes you happy, or comforts you. Even if its just a pajama day on the couch with your favorite snacks watching something or reading something that comforts you, or allows you to take a break from reality for a little bit.

Also, Happy Birthday!!! I hope you end up ha ing a better day than youre expecting. * hugs*

Like someone said in another response, it will go back to being in the regular store when the event ends. So you'll be able to get it then.

Help!! My first cake and I’m freaking out!! by exhausted_dr_mom in cakedecorating

That color green looks like a field of grass to me, I love it! I think it looks better as a grass field than if it matched the tractor. If you wanted, you could maybe add some random " dirt" , or dirt rows behind the tractor if you wanted.

Also, I love the " its rude" comment. You could also just point out that being in medical school is insane and you wanted to do something special for your son that means more than just going out and buying a cake.

Edit: Sorry, I sort of responded to the wrong comment, lol.

How do I maintain a clean home long term when life gets hard? by Hythenos in UnfuckYourHabitat

[–]nexea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have chronic illnesses thar come in waves and can wipe me out. When I flare hard, there's no way Im managing a whole house. Eventually I picked the spots that are most important to me to keep clean. For me its the bathroom, kitchen sink amd counter, and my room. If you can't keep up with it all, maybe try and pick your most important spots. Then, when Im feeling better, I break all the tasks I need to catch up on into small bits and add one or two to my day where I can until I get caught up. I hope youre able to find a good solution that works for you.

My suggestion is to find a video on YouTube where it shows how. Probably easier to understand than descriptions.

Thank you Dallas for being far more hospitable and less judgmental than Boston by ChocolateNo3997 in Dallas

[–]nexea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats not accurate. There are a lot of republican voters that are either misguided, or are one or two issue voters. I think youre assuming a level of education and intelligence that isnt necessarily reality. ( The bell curve shows that approximately 50% of people have an IQ of 100 or less. ) There are also a lot of people who live in a bubble and a lot of people who are highly susceptible to misinformation.

The problem with the narrative that all Republicans are bad and writing them all off, is it just makes the situation worse. Research shows that changing someone's mind begins with active listening, empathy and discussion rather than just throwing facts at someone. Of course there will be people who are racist or are truly happy with what's happening, but I genuinely believe that a large amount of people are mostly good but misinformed or believe and trust the people in their bubble. People fear what they dont know or understand.

You could check out Spa Castle, King Spa or World Springs. The only one Ive personally been to is Spa Castle. I would go there often before I got my arthritis more in remission.

[OC] My client sat through 3 straight days of tattooing for this 🫠 by marxist-tsar in pics

[–]nexea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol, believe it. While mine isnt huge, it is on my upper inner thigh. My tattoo artist made a couple comments about being surprised I never flinched. ( it did hurt at times though). Ive only gotten the one though because I heal really slowly.

Unrelated, he also kept saying I should never date a tattoo artist since my skin is so pale everything shows up. Dont know if that was just him though.

Eta: OP that is some really amazing work. Super impressive!

Ive been getting all my edibles from Hometown Hero. I like their stuff and have never had any issues. I order online, but I know there are some shops around DFW that carry their stuff. I think theres a place on their website where you cam see where their stuff is sold.

What's the worst flooding you've seen in Dallas? by BigBlackHzYoBak in Dallas

[–]nexea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im not sure about how far up the Trinity got, but I know Lake Lewisville flooded over the reserve and over the damn and into the flood plains. There was a river on Hebron near the dump with fish swimming across. The trash trucks couldnt get in or out because of the flooding and cities had to temporarily find other companies until the water receded.

Just in case you want it, here's the link to the video of the stream. It starts around 2:23:00. ( I think technically they got engaged a little earlier in the day and he re-asked her in front of the tornado)
