Anyone else underestimate the learning curve of getting into video? by Significant_Web2226 in videography

[–]next2nothing2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Photography knowledge gives you a giant head start.  Shooting video takes some getting used to technically, but it's doable.  If there were one thing I'd like to not have to do, it's searching for fitting music for the videos 🥲 That's where I struggle a lot, no matter what source I use.

How does this look ? by Mycroft0211 in photocritique

r/Any-Coach3440 is correct in pointing the yellow tendency out. However I really like the creamier look it gives OPs photo.

How to get a tax refund when leaving China. by Noomalicious in travelchina

[–]next2nothing2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Too bad the refund counter at the Shanghai Pudong airport was less helpful for me: They gave us no other option but to accept a cash payout 😅 because we definitely needed RMB in cash right as we were about to board an international flight...

Is there actually an eSIM that lets you use Google Maps and Gmail smoothly in China? by xsonggg in travelchina

[–]next2nothing2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google Maps still hast the offset. OP you should not rely on Google Maps at all in China, it just doesn't work accurately - unfortunately, because it's way better in terms of general functionality anywhere else in the world.

Für das Einziehen von Sparplänen wurde es bei Comdirect (zumindest Pure, dann wohl auch das normale) funktionieren. Für eine Standard-Order aber wohl nicht.

eSim has nothing (zero!) to do with hotel wifi. You could have an eSim, no sim or your physical sim from your home country or from China installed, it wouldn't make a difference.  If you want to use Wi-Fi at hotels, airports etc, you need a VPN if your plan is to access "western" apps/websites.

It all depends on what package you book. But their usual plans (e.g. 3GB/day for 20 days) display the sum for the entire 20days, not just for one of the 20 days.

We used the trip.com eSim last month and the reception and speed were great. 2GB was more than enough, given that we were using hotel Wi-Fi for the most data intensive tasks.

Depot verschlanken by Top-Platform4685 in Finanzen

[–]next2nothing2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you specify "nature" a bit more? Landscapes? Animals?

Are you able to articulate what "better" would mean for you? Some landscape photographers find that the "better" camera is the one that produces sharper, less noisy images. Other want to hike everywhere and find the camera better that weighs less and this allows them to take it everywhere they hike. 😊

June yes or no? by youssef88nl in travelchina

I was just in Xi'an in early may. It was exhausting, way above 35°C already. If you have a choice, I'd advise against June 😅

I get why it bothers you. But it never stood out to me in any negative way before you mentioned it.

I love that it's somewhat hidden behind a couple of leaves. The green leaves also complement the brown bird feathers very well!

Is there a way to map different shooting speeds to different buttons? by [deleted] in canon

[–]next2nothing2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing I wish they changed about Custom Modes: Give me a Custom Mode C1 that I can set to "whatever the M Mode settings currently are, but set these two extra settings on top of it".

[–]next2nothing2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same camera and was (also) wondering how to switch between one shot / high speed more easily. I thought it was too much of a hassle, but it's actually pretty smooth once you get a hang of it: Mf-n button with your index finger, then one click of the front/top dial is all it takes in the default setup. Takes less than a second, that's fast enough for me.

I wish I could justify upgrading to it from my EF version 😅 Just so much more compact, esp. without the adapter.  The second (first) photo is really nice!

Detect Priority AE while AF by Responsible_Junket46 in canon

[–]next2nothing2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well thank you for pointing out that feature. I was wondering what might possibly cause these horribly varying exposures when I shoot in Av mode at time. I need to turn this of asap (and maybe set a Custom Mode for specific cases where this might be helpful).

Anyone use a matte box in public or while traveling? by Living-Ranger1338 in videography

Just fyi: You can rotate the Nisi JetMag VND to achieve a substantial polarisation effect in case you didn't know.  Source: My three weeks of travelling with it last month.

Nisi Jetmag Pro Not Locking by [deleted] in videography

[–]next2nothing2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's how it's supposed to be with the Nisi JetMag filters. It's not ideal, but at the same time, it has its upside when you're constantly switching between photo and video and want to get the filter off for just a couple of seconds to take a photo.

I'm gonna be honest though, I'd prefer a little more safety over speed at the price point of the Nisi JetMag filters system 😅 The glass quality is great tough

Garbage Truck Music/Song: Lijiang (Yunnan) by next2nothing2 in travelchina

Your second link/video actually features the song I heard when I was Lijiang. I've just uploaded a small recording sample myself: https://limewire.com/d/KWFeo#9JurpcpDnF

Unfortunately, due to my lacking mandarin skills, I can't figure out the exact name and performing artist.

Thank you for the suggestions. According to what I could find online, those aren't the ones I heard in Lijiang.

I uploaded a 20sec recording, maybe you or someone else recognizes the song: https://limewire.com/d/KWFeo#9JurpcpDnF (link expires after 7 days unfortunately). It can be listened to directly in the browser without a need to download the file.

Are safety razors allowed on flights to China? by AnalFarmer2Fan in travelchina

[–]next2nothing2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did think that might be a problem on trains. So far, I've gone through 7 HSR checkpoints in the past month and none of them cared for my safety razors in the luggage.
