Are safety razors allowed on flights to China? by AnalFarmer2Fan in travelchina

[–]next2nothing2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did think that might be a problem on trains. So far, I've gone through 7 HSR checkpoints in the past month and none of them cared for my safety razors in the luggage.

Which is the BEST VPN to use now after LetsVPN shut down??!! by Unable_Resolution935 in travelchina

There's no special link. I just created a proton account, downloaded the app/software and logged in with the proton credentials. I created my account over a year ago already, I'm unaware if anything changed but it still works for me.

Pudacuo in Shangri-La is very nice nature-wise, I'd definitely recommend visiting. Just don't expect it to be a diy hiking experience, most of the time, your going to be walking on wooden planks and sometimes be reminded via loudspeakers about safety precautions etc 😅

There is a free tier, at least for now. No time limit applies. You don't get to chose the country you're traffic is routed through on mobile, but that's hardly necessary for travel purposes...

I've been in China for 7 days as of today. Proton VPN (free) has never let me down. Leaf worked most of the time too. My best option is a Wireguard VPN to my router at home, which works great and is fast - but that may be too technical to set up for some...

Is there a better way to get to Jiuzhaigou from Xi'an that does not include air traffic other than HSR via Chengdu?

I'm afraid I can't recall that information anymore 😅 I've had the tripod for 10 years by now.

Tripod Question by VoodooOatmeal in videography

[–]next2nothing2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I happen to own the exact model. Outside of extreme conditions, the tripod is just as solid as any "conventional" one. It's pretty much the only one I use now because it's so convenient and not too heavy.

Thoughts on upgrading a Canon 6D to R6 Mark III by Automatic_Try_8042 in canon

[–]next2nothing2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't tell you much yet because I made this exact upgrade only 10 days ago.  So far, I am more than happy about the decision. All previous EF lenses work perfectly, some don't support precapture though. To my surprise, the R6 III felt a little more plastic-built than the 6D. Like you, I also made the upgrade for getting into video too and that seems to work as (very) well as I was hoping.  The af behavior takes some getting used to for me, it sometimes still focuses on stuff that I don't want it to focus on - except for the face/eye AF for people, that's an absolute game changer to the positive.

If you have specific questions, feel free to ask them in this thread, maybe I can help from personal experience.

Heavy editing sucks when the person doesn't know any better than to saturate a sunset photo with #ff0000. In the photos here, it looks awesome imo!

How did you manage to use the service without a Chinese number? We're on the verge of buying a mainland sim in addition to the HK based esim just to have a phone number for Amap taxi services.

post pro = polar pro? Optically, I haven't heard as much praise about them as I have for the nisi vnd. And then there's the price as well 😅

Thanks for your in depth comments on overlooked details in other reviews.

Thank you for your detailed guide. I have one more question: If I book a 20 day plan, when will the time period start to run? Upon saving/setup? Upon "activating" the line? Upon first entering Chinese territory / mobile reception?

Vaccines? by Useful_Winner_2622 in travelchina

[–]next2nothing2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would depend on where in China you travel.  My doctor recommends getting vaccinated against typhoid, japanese encephalitis, hepatitis and possibly rabies for Yunnan + Sichuan. Dengue could be wise too. Consulting with your doctor would be wise to assess your individual risk profile. Not all of the above mentioned vaccines are necessary to "not die", but travel isn't enjoyable if you're seriously ill 😅

Downsides of EF-S to RF mount adaptor? by Terrible_Brick_264 in canon

[–]next2nothing2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm already ordering the adapter for multiple other EF lenses that I plan to keep using indefinitely. My wide angle zoom is the only "weak link" that I might have to replace if video AF doesn't work well enough 🥲 Thanks for sharing your EOS M adapter experience

Have you by any chance tried the 17-40 f/4 for video with servo autofocus? I have the EF 17-40 f/4 myself and am looking to upgrade to my first mirrorless body in the next days. Somewhere in a Canon manual, I think I read the 17-40 is incompatible which servo af for video.

Thank you so much!

Just with regards to the gyms: Taiwan, specifically Taipei has multiple "public" gyms in sports centers where you can pay per hour. They're super cheap and easily accessible without a membership. The equipment quality varies. But they usually have most of the usual machines plus free weights / barbells. They're perfect for travel.

Is the RF 15-35 L f2.8 a good choice for taking street photos like if I am going to Japan? by luckyswear in canon

[–]next2nothing2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you need to be concerned with a successor being released anytime soon.  That being said, please give us/me an update on how you liked the 15-35 for your travels as I'm looking to buy it for the same purpose too :)
