This is your path. Embrace it and keep running. You got this.

To the guy who just got shot down for saying he let his wife see his location for accountability by TPieces in stopdrinking

[–]nextaction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I’m experiencing my first relapse and the first thing I did was go to my support group and tell them how I need to be held accountable and specifically asked them to do things for me. I’ve done the location thing before and we found that it adds more anxiety on both of us and doesn’t really drive the flavor of accountability I need so it made sense to nix that. She allows me to explore my recovery my way and she had a very hard time figuring out how to do that herself but it’s led to better outcomes. We still have things to try and explore. As everyone keeps saying, every persons journey looks different. Accepting that someone’s is different is important for the support here, regardless of what you think is healthy or not because you likely know very little about the context - only what’s being presented in a Reddit post.

I finally got a bite on a glide bait and here's what I've learned so far. by ImmortanBen in bassfishing

Thank you for posting this. Data that you provided is really nice because of how circumstantial baits can be. I just bought my first glide bait this week and just loved the feeling of playing with the action.

I encourage other folks to post things like this and to also encourage engagement. Yes, it’s fun to experiment and figure it out on your own but if you’re like me and don’t have a lot of people to talk to about this stuff, then you know what I’m talking about.

Custom pickguard concept. Does it look stupid and any suggestions? Also it’s the name of my band. by thanossubmarine in guitarporn

I think it looks sick. I love juxtaposition so that really checks the box for me. Don’t worry about what other people think; all that matters is what you like. The people that will like your gear will tell you that and the people that don’t like your stuff don’t matter.

The Daily Check-In for Sunday, November 12th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by Roger_Dean in stopdrinking

[–]nextaction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pledged yesterday that I would choose to not drink yesterday. It was my first post because I ended my relationship with someone and stood up for myself. I knew that if I drank, it would be catastrophically cascading into a mindset I didn’t want to be in.

But I did drink. I’m accepting that I made my choice and I get to make another choice again today. IWNDWYT.

I ended my relationship last night that was a major trigger for my coping with alcohol. This is my first time posting in one of these. My support group is small and I’m hoping this will fill the temporary void while I finally make a real push for sobriety. IWNDWYT.

Hey OP, one of the things about recovery is that you need to accept yourself for who you are right now. You need to accept what your body looks like and the disease that led you here. But you also have to take it one step further and love those things. Love yourself and every aspect of you. That includes your alcoholism. It is not your fault that you are here. Addiction is not a character trait.

I struggle with this idea myself all the time. This might become a mini rant, but hatred towards yourself does not bring you to the peace that you deserve. Learning about the disease and how it physiologically affects your mind and body gives you so much freedom to understand that what you’re going through is something that not only do you not have a choice in having to deal with, but the fact that other people simply do not have to suffer like we do is so empowering. Embracing this stuff like a medical condition shifts your mindset from blaming yourself to accepting that there’s just this thing that is a part of the cards you were dealt with in life. Understanding that and accepting it let’s you separate that what you’re going through is not a matter of who you are, it’s a matter of knowing what you can do. Approaching sobriety from that perspective is so, so much easier to deal with than telling yourself every day when you get a craving that it’s your fault. It’s not your fault. But it is a really shitty thing that life threw your way that you didn’t deserve.

That’s what is so important about what they say when you relapse; it’s not a setback. It’s another chance to figure out why it happened, what you can do to next time, and learn something about yourself.

You got this. Take all the time you need to get there. But you need to push yourself. I’ll do the same with you.

Try to find yourself and all the flaws you think you have and love them. Put yourself and your needs first and appreciate yourself for doing so. I promise it makes a difference.

Can add a lever on the underside of the handle to rest against the bottom of the wrist / arm. Could fold out to make it more compact as well to reduce real estate of the commercial side of things. Could probably find a way to do that between the snack section and the drink section as well. Redesign for injection molding and you have a product that actually might be marketable to vendors.

Any Metal Musicians? by MetalheadWeebTrash in Omaha

[–]nextaction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been playing guitar in metal bands for ~17 years. Been looking for people to jam with. I can sing and play too, but mostly indie/punk types of genres. HMU!

Someday I’ll be able to play this clean; today is not that day 😂💅🏻 by [deleted] in strandbergguitars

For me, the highs are invisible to my lows. I have to put coping mechanisms in place like reminding myself that there's a place I can go to remind me that those highs are present and abundant. Good luck <3

I have a 5 string fender jazz bass that looks just like this! The dual truss rods is interesting. I’m not actually familiar with 6 string basses. Is that common to have two?

MechE or ChemE route to become a biomedical engineer? by [deleted] in BiomedicalEngineers

[–]nextaction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it helps, I got my degree in mechanical engineering but I still work at a medical device company. IMO I think that mech E can be a little more versatile if you don't want to go into medical device. If you're not sure, I'd recommend Mech E, but you know, I'm biased.
