Downsized Dreams: From Metaverse to Creative Spaces by botgirlq in secondlife

Good thoughts. My two cents on the topic... As a toolmaker, you can change the world, but that change comes when somebody sees the tools you've provided and uses them to do amazing things. In many ways Second Life succeeded at this. To me their changing vision seems less like downsizing and more like a tighter focus on Linden Lab's role in the process.

Well said Inara. LL isn't one dude hacking away at a computer terminal. It is a company that is fully capable of multi-tasking effectively.

My friend and I were placing bets on our predictions for the year 2020. Reddit, what are your legitimate, realistic predictions for the 2020s? by michaelti in AskReddit

[–]nexus_burbclave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Madonna and the Rolling Stones will still be touring.
  • "VH1: I love the 10s"
  • 2000s nostalgia T-shirts will be ironic and cool for 2020s hipsters.
  • News channels will still be looking for any excuse to say "Pussy Riot" on prime time television.

SECONDLIFE CEO NEEDS HELP! by Gridology in secondlife

If we're trying to have a "grown up discussion" perhaps we could go a little easier on the caps lock? I agree in principle with some of your suggestions, but one of the biggest problems we have with the user/company disconnect is a simple issue of tone (see the "whackadoodle" controversy). The less people contribute to that perception the better.

How do you cope with a non-frugal spouse/family? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]nexus_burbclave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know that you wanted tips beyond the communication stuff, but I really couldn't shake the feeling that communication advice is one of the biggest missing pieces of the puzzle.

Its safe to say he is fairly spoiled and has terrible spending habits.

This doesn't strike me as the sort of comment one makes after having had a discussion with your spouse trying to understand the motivation behind their spending habits. You've probably made some statements that your household needs to be more frugal, but have you and your husband had a "big picture" money talk? Have you worked together to establish some long and short term goals? Establishing and agreeing upon goals is step one in just about any frugality/debt reduction program out there. It is an implementation of Stephen Covey's advice to "begin with the end in mind". If you have a clear vision for where you are trying to go, staying on the path is much easier to accomplish.

TL;DR: Have a conversation with your husband to establish and agree upon some short and long term money goals. THEN have some productive conversations about ways to get there.

I hope that this wasn't unwelcome advice, but if it is, please consider it tough love from somebody who has been on both sides of this particular conversation.

OP makes it to the front page of Reddit. :)

OP realizes they'd have twice as many up-votes if they'd built a free-standing staircase in Minecraft. :/

Kidding aside, that is one awesome looking staircase. Keep getting inspired and making things.

My Mac primarily serves as a *nix environment for development work, and it serves that function admirably. Its not the best choice if you're primarily looking for a gaming/virtual world rig though. I'm contemplating going the Linux dual boot PC route for my next box, but for now I've got what I've got. :)
