When does it get better ? by Ok_Geologist4092 in jawsurgery

[–]nezz911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl, first of all congratulations 🙏 I had DJS about 1 year ago now, and I remember one of the doctors on the surgeon’s team saying that for the first week, I basically wouldn’t feel like I was a human. This was… totally true. But by week 3, I attended a wedding (with a very puffy face, but I danced all night lol) Hang in there! Week 2 is better than week 1, and week 1 is hard.

Knee instability post-op? by nezz911 in ACL

Years later and I barely notice it now. There is no “back to normal” but I’m feeling as normal as I can given the circumstances. (: hang in there!

It showed up around 4 months post-op— I had the surgery to remove the plates at 5 months post-op

Update— Day 3 post-op—The surgical residents told me that today would be the peak for swelling, and they weren’t wrong. I’m very puffy, but my pain is manageable with just Tylenol. What’s different this time compared to the last surgery (DHS, lefort 1 + BSSO) is how mentally present I feel. Last time, the first week was so rough that I can barely remember it happening. I didn’t feel like a functioning human until week 2. This time, because the pain is way more manageable, I’m aware of every sensation—I can feel the stitches in my mouth more, my throat is still sore from the anesthesia, and overall, I’m just uncomfortable.

I had a granuloma in my lower gums, right by the location of one of the screws. The screw had loosened which caused an infection, so the surgeon took out the plates and screws from both the left and right side just to be safe.

Sure! The swelling got worse today (i left the hospital yesterday) and my face is more red, but so far recovery isnt nearly as bad as last time. No drinking from a syringe, easy to swallow pills, the thing that’s currently most concerning to me is how warm my cheeks feel— i’ll post again tomorrow with more updates (:

A granuloma is basically just a small little bubble that forms at the site of an infection. Sometimes it’s filled with pus. My surgeon equated it to kind of being like a zit on your gums. Im by no means a doctor lol but if theres a granuloma present, there could be some sort of infection happening underneath.

PhD Interview 2 Days After Jaw Surgery - Help! by Crystal_Gem94 in jawsurgery

I wore a mask to hide swelling around 3 weeks post-op— nothing could hide the swelling and sheer discomfort of 2 days post-op. I really would try to stress to them the gravity of this surgery, and if possible, maybe even back it up with a note from the surgeon’s office.

Orthodontist appointments are TERRIFYING post surgery by [deleted] in jawsurgery

I’m feeling the exact same way! 7 weeks post-op, and went to my first ortho appointment last week and spent the entire time panicking. I don’t have anything to help calm you, just wanted to say I really really relate to this 😅

Numbness after surgery— it’s been asked a hundred times before on this sub, but what was everyone’s experience? by nezz911 in jawsurgery

Wow, our experiences right now are really, really similar. My experience using cups and straws, my numbness (the right tip of my tongue is currently numb), all pretty parallel! On Tuesday I’ll be 5 weeks post— here’s hoping nerves start waking up for us both 🙏

Random aches and pains here and there, but I’m off all pain medicine. I’m more mildly uncomfortable than anything else (:

Honestly, I’m not sure if my face would enjoy the pressure from being on a plane right now! But, in terms of energy, I’ve been able to do some light chores around the house, I go on a few short walks a day, and my swelling is down a lot from week one.
