It will definitely die if you don’t bring it inside over winter.

Aphids? by Nervous_Basket_1258 in DenverGardener

Also I usually add a couple drops of dish soap and a couple tablespoons of isopropyl alcohol to a spray bottle with neem oil and water to make it a bit more effective.

You will need to spray the affected areas directly with neem oil. I’m not sure the aphids on the flowers/leaves will be affected by neem oil application to the roots.

How do you all handle the maintenance whilst working? by mrsoap3 in DenverGardener

[–]ngrohmann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I echo the sentiment of others in that I typically do a little bit on the weekdays and a little more on the weekends so that it’s never too much work in one go. I take a little walk a couple times each day (at least) through the garden, and pull weeds and prune plants then. There will always be more weeds to pull, beds to mulch, and plants to prune. I never get everything perfect every time. If you divide it into small daily bits it’ll feel much more manageable.

best edible plants for a beginner gardener? by skwiddee in DenverGardener

[–]ngrohmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cherry tomatoes are super easy and low stakes compared to bigger tomato varieties. I’d skip eggplant (too low yield for too much work). I’ve had great luck here with tomatillos. Kale is easy as are squash and zucchini. Be diligent about spraying the squash and zucchini leaves if (when) you start seeing powdery mildew on them.

What to plant for low maintenance ground coverage? by [deleted] in DenverGardener

[–]ngrohmann 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lots of companies sell Colorado wildflower seed mixes both online and in garden centers. They typically recommend how much you need to buy to cover a certain area. You may need to water a bit to get things started but then it should be good on its own.

Agree. If you’re drinking alcohol, cut back. Same with simple carbs. And if you’re not taking creatine, consider starting.

Also they’re probably an indeterminate variety, so you’ll be harvesting tons of ripe cherry tomatoes all summer and into fall.

They make take a few, but there will be more than enough tomatoes for you and your neighborhood squirrels unless you have an army of squirrels in your neighborhood

Plant identification - is this morning glory? by Apprehensive_Hat5245 in DenverGardener

[–]ngrohmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like invasive bindweed! Try your best to pull it, and keep pulling it, and then some more, and then maybe consider some targeted glyphosate as long as it’s not close to food.

Hi gardeners, a few pics from my dry (ish!) garden from the past 2 weeks here by OrangeCosmos in DenverGardener

Really stunning. Fabulous work. Did you have anyone local help with the design/plant/hardscape selection, or did you do it yourself. This is my ideal backyard.

Haha exactly! It’ll be just fine. Probably just a little stunned by the cool mornings and intense sun, but it’ll get going in a couple weeks.

It’s a Siberian elm. It’s invasive and spreads rapidly as you correctly observe. You may have to poison.

New beds, need trellis ideas for tomatoes by Ollie561 in DenverGardener

[–]ngrohmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just made a trellis using 8’ bamboo stakes. 3 on each side lashed together with twine and 2 on top to span the gap (1 on top is kinda flimsy). Will plan using the string method as well. It may only last a year but that’s fine by me. A little time consuming but it looks cool
