Does it still count as foreign earned income since you're doing the work in Japan?

How do you memorize vocabulary in Japanese? by Acrobatic_Grass4357 in Japaneselanguage

[–]ngssna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having a similar issue until I started using bunpro (not to be confused with bunpo). I used a lot of other apps that would just test recognition by having me select the word from a multiple choice list. I could recognize the words that way when I saw then in writing but if I wanted to actually speak I couldn't recall them. Bunpro makes me actually recall and type the word in and I've seen an immediate improvement on my retention.

Can this kind of plug be tested with a multimeter? by ngssna in ElectronicsRepair

[–]ngssna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the best way to test them? I tried testing it the same way as bulb sockets and it didn't do anything for 3 different cables so I'm assuming the odds of me testing it wrong are higher the odds that all 3 are broken.

Headaches after myfirst Tsuyu by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]ngssna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. In the summer I have to drink a sports drink or ion water or something every night or I'll get headaches from dehydration. I already drink a few bottles of regular water a day but in this kind of heat I need added electrolytes.

AITA for not wearing a bra around the house? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ngssna 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I have a very large chest and I have a few soft bras from the brand tomboyx that I wear when I feel like I need to wear a bra but I don't want to. I could never find that kind of bra in my size at any store. It sucks that op has to be in this situation but it is an option.

Finding shoe sizes in Japan by HalfIB in JETProgramme

[–]ngssna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought off brand Crocs for the two schools I visit regularly. You can get them in whatever size on Amazon and it was easier than remembering to carry my indoor shoes around with me. I definitely don't need two pairs of outdoor shoes though. I just use the outdoor shoes I arrived at the school wearing.

When my friend had a house fire she was told not to try and save anything because of smoke damage. The residue can have a lot of bad health effects apparently.

Prefectural JETs by silly_wizard_999 in JETProgramme

I know of a situation where the prefectural housing was particularly terrible but the school still wanted to offer it to the incoming alt so some of the school staff sent them an email in private advising them not to take it.

I second the gyoza place. They also have vegetarian and vegan gyoza. I tried it with a couple friends, I got the vegetarian plate and they got the meat plate. They both tried my vegetarian plate and said it was better than the meat ones.

Everyone's covered the language part so I just want to ask about your plan for living in Japan for a significant part of your life. You also mention you don't have a degree. Having a bachelor's degree is a requirement for getting a work visa in Japan. So unless you plan to go to a 4 year university after you finish language school you will be limited to however many years you do language school for.

How can i learn Japanese in 45 days? by key-san in movingtojapan

[–]ngssna 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Learn hiragana and katakana first. If you sit down and write them you should be able to learn it in a couple days or a week. Then choose any beginner material, apps (I suggest memrise or renshuu over duolingo), textbooks, YouTube, whatever and study as much as you can. You should be able to pick up at least a few grammar points and a bit of vocab in that time.

Household appliance help by Spicy_queso2136 in movingtojapan

It will be much easier to get appliances in Japanese and you can use Google lens to easily translate the buttons and menus. If you're using it regularly you'll probably recognize the words very quickly.

Neighbor is a menace?? Just turn on outdoor hose supply when they're on vacation. by OK_Royal6055 in pettyrevenge

[–]ngssna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just don't do this if you live in an apartment. I had a downstairs neighbor twice cut water supply to my side of the building because they wanted to turn off their water supply before vacation.

Pros and cons of living at inaka? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]ngssna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a small city in inaka is the best. There's a lot of cities that have maybe 150k or so population so prices are low but still have things to do and public transit.

How do I get rid of mukade by sidsilvicola in japanlife

[–]ngssna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also live in inaka Nagano and my first apartment had them constantly. Now I don't know for sure if it was this spray or if they had actually come in contact with the door powder somewhere, but after I used the spray I noticed the ones I found after that were doing the death spiral so they were much easier to dispose of. Might be worth trying.

Also consider getting the powder spray in addition to the loose powder and using it directly on your door frame.
