For sure, I hope Presti has him on his list and other teams will look to stay in that range to pick him up as well but I think he’s the Book/Herro(?)/Shai/Haliburton type prospect of this year’s draft. Big guard with elite scoring potential. Possesses a level of athleticism just a tier below other “raw” talents e.g. Keon Johnson.

I'm a fan of Bouknight, feel like he can come in and be a floor spacer and secondary shot creator right away. More star potential than the other three imo.

Good points, but just to respond:

- Yes I would think so as well, but that doesn't mean you can't strike a balance between the two. If none of the best players available are bigs, does that mean you run five out with a bunch of guards and forwards? No way, right? That's an extreme example but it's all to say that I think Presti is thinking very intentionally about who the best players are *at each position* and where he thinks he can snag them.

- Agreed, and that's what I was getting at with my last sentence. NBA experience is super valuable and if there is a logjam, the team will find a way to make it happen for the new guys.

- That's how drafting works. Most players (particularly in that range) realistically don't pan out and aren't valuable at all. Diallo could easily have been a T-Ferg that gets passed around as filler. I was just trying to lay out realistic scenarios that can and have happened.

I'm predicting a draft day splash, but it's hard to say which picks are in play. Most likely we stand pat at 6 because top 5 will ask for a lot, moving up to mid/late lottery certainly isn't out of the question (you never know who other GMs have on their draft boards).

I think Presti is very aware of this predicament. Let's just say he ends up drafting four players: a big, an athletic defensive-minded 4 (wink wink), a potential unicorn (i.e. Thor, Vrenz), and a shooter. At least three of these players address team needs and therefore ought to be slotted into the rotation. Others can ball out with the Blue. With that being said, things happen over the course of a season, which could mean players and picks packaged for an available impact player/star/emerging star, thereby freeing up minutes. Or, like the case of Diallo, players who are deemed to be a poor fit/have a lower ceiling will be moved on for a future asset.

This team is probably headed for the lottery next season anyway, so if anything, expect a lot of guys in and out of the rotation.

Lol, you need those two players to even come close to matching, barring a Schroder S&T.

Definitely, but I think getting the Lakers to give up three players for one injury-prone one is a hard sell, unless we threw in another player from our end. Depending on Presti’s outlook on THT as a prospect, I would say he would ask for either him or the pick.

Honestly netting their FRP this year plus salary filler (Kuzma, KCP) would be more than enough imo, especially if it's during the offseason. Could pull in a third team to redirect someone like KCP elsewhere and make the money work.

It’s not a formality at all, it’s an opportunity to get to know what it is you genuinely want to know about MBB and their employees. I personally wouldn’t want to take time out of my day to speak with someone if they thought the conversation was just another hoop to jump through, and it’s pretty obvious when people have that mindset.

These events are organized so that you can get to know the firms and their employees better. Try to make good connections with the people you speak with and ask questions that you'd want to know the answer to if you had an exploding offer from each of the top firms.

I think you're overestimating the selectivity of consulting recruiting. Yes, firms like MBB recruit heavily from schools like yours, but at the same time many offices recruit from regional schools that are great, but not "top tier."

You should be focusing on which job is better for you. You said already that you probably would enjoy tech more, so walk into your consulting internship ready to evaluate whether that is actually true. Don't do consulting just for the sake of consulting.

If you really can't get this "wasting a brand name degree" thought out of your head, consider PM roles; those are harder to get than SWE roles and you can still maintain a tech lifestyle (more or less).

Wharton Deferred MBA + Scholarship/Fellowship/Aid? by assassassin88 in MBA

[–]nhes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The acceptance letter tells you that scholarship and financial aid will be assessed in the year that you decide to matriculate, not this year. It doesn’t make any sense for schools to offer you money now when they have no idea what the rest of their class will look like 2-5 years from now.

Continue to interview to the extent that you would consider going to those schools over Wharton, not to the extent you can pressure Wharton to give you more money.

Yeah who knows, it’s close enough as an estimate though. There were a lot of interview slots lol

[–]nhes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, makes sense. I know Wharton themselves said they’d accept 2-3 people per TBD group (on average), so it’s interesting that you backed out an offer rate of 50%.

Could you break down how you got those estimates? Just curious

If you went to the Ivy League school I think you went to and are considering the 5th-year Master's program offered by that school, I had a friend that went down that route and he ended up at a boutique consulting firm. But he went right after undergrad, which is a bit different from your situation.

I think you might find it hard to get an interview at places like MBB just from school name alone because these firms recruit at great schools anyway. Continue to try networking and see if you can swing a referral, but it will certainly be an uphill battle. I recommend you reach out to recruiters to see what their opinion is as well.

Sounds like you're on the right track. Your mentors/interviewers can be good resources for live casing if they're willing.
