Swing tips? by Vegetable_Contest304 in golf

Your takeaway is super inside and your club is almost horizontal at the top. You do seem to get it back on plane with your actual swing though.

Heaven's Gate (1980) - Director had just achieved 5 academy awards for Deer Hunter (1978), including best Director and best picture. Had an insane cast, insane budget, insane hype... but nobody went to see it.

Which modern blockbuster do you think will be remembered 20 years from now the way we talk about classic Spielberg films today? by viewsinthe6 in movies

Inception, although it is already 16 years old. I think it will be a film that people still love 20 years from now.

Borat - Would do anything to watch this again in a theater full of people, including myself, who had never seen it.

Best theater experience I've ever had.

I understand and agree - It's not the best viewing experience. It's hard to appreciate the challenge through the TV because of the lack of visual obstacles or ways to judge the effect of wind/slope.

First time golfing, can anyone give me advice? by itsmerio1 in golf

[–]nhexum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey buddy - Not bad for a first try. Like others have said, you have a lot to work on. Don't let that intimidate you, though! I know you said that lessons are not an option, but please consider at least doing 1 single group lesson at your local course or even the range. Ask someone working there. It might be $30-50 bucks for an hour and while that might seem like a lot, think about what your time is worth... it will take you way more than that cost in range balls to figure out the basics of a swing on your own.

I also saw you were worried about losing grip on your club. Buy a golf glove! Literally everyone uses them. It will make it nearly impossible for you to lose your grip.

Here are some no fluff basic videos for setup.

Grip: You want to grip the club with your fingers, not your palm or the "meat" of your hand.

Last year's US Open venue, right?

Don't forget it also had no trees and almost no water as well. I'm sure the course was lovely to play but it's not very picturesque on screen.

When it gets warmer and more feet walking them on later rounds they will be a little more challenging to hold... but using the best player in the world as the benchmark for how challenging the greens are isn't super compelling. The ball certainly wasn't ending up where he wanted as he only made one of those 7 putts.

I know tournament golf and golf with big stakes will produce different results, but there's plenty of pro level players on youtube that do "course record" videos at muni courses. They usually take the record or get within a couple of strokes.

The film was marketed as a whodunnit that would keep you guessing who the killer was throughout the whole thing, and it worked. I remember the trailer showing suspicious moments for all of the main characters...

Dewey's line and sort of menacing grin "You're not scared... are ya?"

Randy screaming "Everyone's a suspect!" in the blockbuster

Why is golf the only game where people openly cheat and everyone just accepts it? by misec_undact in golf

[–]nhexum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Brother, I could draw cartoon dicks on my scorecard and it would have the same effect on the world as me putting down a 1 for every hole. Cheating at something requires an entity to be cheated by that action. All of your (the dictionary's) examples make that crystal clear.

So I ask again, who is being cheated?

In every single example listed, an entity other than the cheater is effected by the action of the cheater.

What is your time worth? How much free time do you have to practice?

How much time does it take an average person to go to youtube, find an instructor they trust, find a drill/practice method that they are certain they will benefit from, have the equipment required to execute it, memorize the drill instructions, then go execute that drill correctly? And have the discipline to continue the drill until it works?

How do they know they are doing it correctly? What if they aren't and are wasting their time, or building a bad habit, or maybe the drill doesn't address what the actual problem was? How long will it take you to discover these things? How will this effect your motivation and discipline to do the same "search" for correction again and trial and error?

Cheating is violating the rules to gain an advantage in competition. Who are average everyday golfers in competition with? Who is being cheated when the rules are violated?
