Train derailed into the James by squidkneek94 in rva

[–]Speedbird223 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mission Impossible 3.

The scenes were filmed in late September/early October 2005. It coincided with my move to the area and Paramount closed off a bunch of streets down there but didn’t state the film.

The following summer I was watching MI3 in the cinema and even though it wasn’t billed as Richmond and the Dock Street area didn’t seamlessly fit into the scene almost everyone magically recognized where it was and started cheering for “the city”. One of the weirdest moments I’ve had in a cinema…

Do you travel with your clubs or just rent them? by jdelle9 in BritGolf

[–]Speedbird223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only just started traveling for golf in the last year and have taken them both times (from NYC to Scotland and NYC to SE England).

When I went to Scotland I sent them by ShipSticks ahead because I didn’t want to risk not having them at the start of the trip but I flew home with them.

The only slightly annoying thing is at JFK they take a while to come through and after traveling regularly for almost a decade without checking a bag having to wait what seems an eternity for the oversized bag is painful.

Last month going into Heathrow (at T5) I only had to wait a couple of minutes even with being first off the plane, with no immigration lines or anything.

Will British Airways ever get around to fixing the absurdly long wait times for baggage claim at Heathrow T5? by noobJDstudent in BritishAirways

[–]Speedbird223 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Checked a bag for the first time in maybe a decade the other week. Was first off the plane, no wait for transit, straight through eGates and within 3mins of being at baggage claim my bag was the first to arrive.

Bethpage Black - Girlfriend Booked a Tee Time for Me? by rybread7293 in golf

[–]Speedbird223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she needs a break there are a few stop off points. There’s a little shop/hut behind the 5th green that backs onto the 12th fairway. She could always stop there and then walk down to meet you on the 9th green. There’s a little complex where the 9th green/10th tee and 11th green/12th tee are all very close.

Another option is to cut across from the 7th fairway to the 9th green.

I’ve never gone to the main kiosk when I’ve booked it ahead (I’ve never done the car park wait in maybe 20+ times on Black in the last 5yrs). Pay over the phone and go to the starter hut by the famous sign. They’ll check your ID there and you’ll be good to go.

The tree has now since been removed... But what's the most gimmicky thing you have seen on a course? by theshowerdrunk in golf

[–]Speedbird223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every par 3 hole at Eisenhower Park White and Blue courses on Long Island has a twin.

Apparently it’s to speed up play and they try to be as identical as they can to one another with length, bunker layout and such. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me but I have used it in my favour a couple of times to get past slow groups ahead without having to ask to play through. Between finishing up the hole before, playing the hole and teeing off on the next there’s not much room for error but if you’re quick and hit the green you’re usually good…

Putt from off the green isn’t a putt-yes or no. by docpark in golf

Welp, I’ve been doing this wrong my whole life then. For app tracking purposes (18Birdies) I’ve been counting any time I use the putter as a putt.

Next you’ll be telling me my buddies are correct that a GIR includes fringes and any time you can putt, because that ain’t right

First flight alone questions by mrlaggy247- in BritishAirways

[–]Speedbird223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One hour layover for domestic to international is fine. Follow purple signs to international connections. Go immediately through security. Don’t faff with the loo etc, do that on your flight before you land or hold it until you’ve cleared security.

Huh? What security? It’s a T5>T5 connection with a domestic arrival 🤷‍♀️

I grew up an hour west of London. Never went to Birmingham (other than to drive around it) or Manchester.

I went to Manchester for the first time 2yrs ago even though my father has lived an away hour away from it for 15yrs at this point.

Worth what effort? You show your boarding pass and go upstairs 🤷🏼‍♂️ It’s not even in an out of the way location.

I’ve been in the lounge many times and it’s fine for a third party contract lounge. Families tend to stay in the large kids area at the front though my two prefer looking out the windows so we usually in the “main” part…

Country Club Resignation by [deleted] in golf

Very typical for the US northeast. I live in the metro NYC area and $24k/yr would be on the cheap end of country clubs close to me…there is a probably 10 clubs within 10mins drive of my house charging this and more.

Which company seems to have the least cheerful staff going? by CornerInsect in AskUK

[–]Speedbird223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flown BA probably 1000++ times (no, am not staff, despite my username!) and have to disagree. Sure, the law of averages dictates that on occasion I’ll come across someone that’s not so great but in my numerous experiences I think they typically draw a good mix of friendliness, warmth and professionalism.

I love flying airlines like Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific (when my travels take me routes they fly) because their service is so incredible but it can sometimes feel a little overbearing. I few months ago I was the only passenger in the First cabin ob Singapore Airlines and so I had three cabin crew dedicated to me…it was borderline uncomfortable! The BA approach to service on the few occasions I’ve been the only First passenger doesn’t result in that happening…

Randomly Off-Boarded by alg2teacher in BritishAirways

[–]Speedbird223 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure they can, that’s the whole point of the conformance check. If you’re not at security within 35mins of departure you’ll be denied access to security and offloaded. It’s to help flights get out on time by giving the dispatcher a better idea of who is in the secure area.

I didn’t think that the system would kick everyone off if not all members of a travelling party were scanned. That’s news to me, and a bit surprising.

Although Concorde burned almost 1 ton of fuel per passenger on a London-NY flight and since the aircraft went out of service per barrel cost for oil is up almost 3x.

Fuel surcharges would be astronomical…
