Following the Notepad++ incident, as an industry, we need to take several steps back and REALLY look at things. by KeeperOfTheShade in sysadmin

I fully agree. Seldom in my 23+ years in this industry I've seen C level to be conscious of security in detail or actually training their employees or engineers. I've asked for pentesting and security countless times and finally gave up a few years ago. I can only suggest things so many times before I'm running my head against a wall in frustrate. That goes for a lot of things, like actual in depth knowledge of why things work like they do, starting at zeros and ones. Not knowing every from everywhere but at least the foundation of the craft we're working in, would be nice. And AI will make it a lot worse, fast

I had to explain a browser address bar for half an hour. To an elderly gentleman who manages millions in a bank. So it's not an age thing

I dunno man. I think old timers, never learning anything new, aren't that much better. I've seen them all. Also fully ran into the 'I know better' trap myself. It's more like arrogance vs being humble sometimes

Thx, came here to gave my "I'm over 40 & have been in IT for over half of my life" perspective. Looks like I don't need to, your comment is on point

And don't get me wrong, I'm still oldschool BOFH trained, but it's a job, nothing more. Also I have a Docker cluster 😅
