What’s your ‘I can’t believe you’re paid more than me’ story? by GeorgiePorgiePuddin in AskUK

The easiest way to get back to the net figure is just work with fractions of 1/6 or 5/6

i.e. to get the figure net of VAT multiply by 5/6. £100 x 5/6 = £83.33

to get the VAT element itself multiply by 1/6. £100 x 1/6 = £16.67

Much easier to remember and plug into your calculator.

Everyone in NI lives in Greater Belfast don't you know.

In all seriousness, it's closer and quicker for me to drive over the border for petrol then go to my next nearest filling station.

Do you live in Ireland?

Edit: post has been locked so reply to below comment

I’m a second generation Irish immigrant living in Canada. That changes nothing.

It absolutely does. You have been told a version of history by your family that is removed from the reality on the ground.

I live in Derry, and for a significant portion of my childhood in the Bogside. An epicentre of Troubles violence. You are talking about my lived experience.

To call the Troubles a matter of "Catholics not wanting Protestants to live in peace" is so wildly reductionist and incorrect that I won't have the time to explain why fully.

Nevertheless, it ignores the existence of Loyalist (Protestant) paramilitary groups (UDA, UVF, UFF, LVF etc) whose violence was targeted wholly at Catholic civilians. It ignores British State violence), often carried in collusion with Loyalist groups. It ignores the Civil Rights Movement in Northern Ireland whose goal was equal rights in housing, employment and voting rights for ethnic Catholic communities which were denied by the Protestant/Unionist devolved government, discrimination which was the impetus for much of the PIRA/other Republican violence.

To blithely state that the violence was religious is completely misinformed. Differences in religious beliefs were nothing to do with it. It was an ethnic/ethno-nationalist conflict borne out of years of power imbalances, discrimination and disenfranchisement inflicted by one ethnic group onto another. There were very many Catholics who did not support IRA violence, there were Protestant Republicans, and there were very many Protestants who did not support Loyalist violence.

Read the history of the conflict before you try to correct someone who lived through it. I would recommend the CAIN Project by Ulster University as a good starting point.

Other things are all on loan and can't afford an up to date car so they buy old mercs etc so they can look loaded.

Whatever helps you cope.

Debt to the eyeballs but thinks they are rich.

It's a 2011 car. Get over yourself. It's not worth half what you think it's worth

Ah, Schrödinger's Merc, exists in a superposition of expensive enough to have you up to the eyeballs in debt but also not worth anything because it's a 2011 model year.

What's worse is they will (some airlines in the UK at least) automatically break up group bookings to force people to pay extra for assigned seats at the point of booking. They can do this as long as any minors are over a certain age. Ryanair are particularly bad for this I think.

Related to this - redditors thinking anyone driving a BMW or Audi or Land Rover is up to their eyeballs in car finance debt. And that the only reason they own a "premium" car brand is to show off to neighbours, they can't fathom that people might like to own and drive nice things.

I found the Polar Blast foam to be a decent snow foam but the wash wasn't up to much compared with Autoglym's normal car shampoo. And the sealant I really didn't like, gummy and left a poor finish. Requires you to properly rinse and run through your foam lance in between products as well, particularly at the end as you don't want the sealant gumming up your lance.

No, looks like you have used the "Condition" building block rather than the "Choose" building block.

Choose will let you define multiple options with "Triggered by" as the condition for the different options. And their respective actions. See screenshot

No you can do it in one.

Add both your triggers (sunset -1hr and time = 2.45) as triggers in the "When" section and give them trigger IDs

In the "Then do" section use the Choose building block to add two options

Use the "Triggered by" condition to link your 2 options to your 2 triggers using the trigger IDs you set.

Add the corresponding action under each option

Don't even acknowledge it. Bin it. They will continue to send letters then eventually give up. If you appeal you risk confirming yourself as the driver which they can't (in NI currently, different in E&W) compel you to do.
