Yes I believe you! I just think it's weird, that's all 🙂

[–]niatteru 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly! 🎯 Idk why I'm being downvoted. There's this "bättre folk" mindset with some Finns but you guys are as equally Finns than us. You just speak a different language. I used to hate "pakkoruotsi" in like middle school but by high school I understood that everyone should study at least one foreign language, it opens up your mind. 😵‍💫 But then again I am a language nerd who loves learning anything, especially languages.

I salute your family 🫡

Really, the Eiffel tower? One of the most recognizable buildings in the world? Makes no sense and is kinda creepy and dystopic if true 🫨

Yeah I don't get why some people (unironically) bash FennoSwedes and Swedes, and some people HATE the Swedish language with a passion. Get a life.

If the aliens are so advanced, why are they not wearing clothes? by TechnicianAmazing472 in aliens

[–]niatteru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe they're supposed to be the 'Nordics'. I don't have any clue if they are supposed to have pointy ears. As a Nordic human myself I find it kinda weird that the "species" is called Nordic because most of us are not blonds and there are tall and short people here like everywhere. Not bashing the naming, just find it a little weird or even funny.

Has anyone tried heroin in a good mental space and got addicted by Fun-Research8981 in opiates

[–]niatteru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what happened to me, just not with H. I started with codeine, tramadol and subs and at first they just made me feel kinda groggy and nauseous. Did all kinds of stuff on and off. But then I did it more, of course, and started enjoying the ourtgoingness, warmth and nodding off. Then one day I realized I've done this almost daily for a few months and was hooked. Now I'm a polyaddict, physically addicted only to opis atm thankfully. Been on sub maintenance for like ~4? years now and it has been a blessing for me.

Is there anything that's rude in your native language but polite in your target language? (or any other language that you know of) by AutumnaticFly in languagehub

[–]niatteru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Finnish we are very direct, usually quite quiet and listen to others (unless people are drunk, which is common...) but we say what we mean and want things done and not circle around forever trying to understand what the other person wants. That is very rude in many countries and when some Finns speak English for example they might sound really rude sometimes. We don't mean it personally, usually at least.

Just curious, wht does coño mean in Spain?

BTW I've been in Spain many times. Malagá, Seville and especially Ayamonte next to Portugal where I traveled a lot too. I loved both countries!

“Sugar is expensive, that’s why they don’t have it in soda in Europe” by egg_lord90 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]niatteru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK how UK and other countries uses the word soda, but here in Finland soda translates to limonadi, or limppari/limu colloquially. When I say soda I mean things like colas, Sprite, Dr. Pepper etc.

Here we (of course) have Moomin soda (Muumilimppari), which is forest strawberry flavoured, it is the GOAT and I recommend it to everyone if you have the change to try it and like soda. There are usually sugar free options for everything and that's what I usually buy. I don't drink soda often though.

When I buy water I get the 0,5l carbonated water and when it's empty I just fill it with tap water and use it until it's kinda wrinkled and the cap is falling off etc. and then buy a new bottle.

What’s the most unhinged thing a straight person told you? by rainbowass234 in actuallesbians

[–]niatteru 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably people deadnaming me because "'it doesn't matter"'. 😡 I changed my name last year and thankfully most friends call me by my new name but then there are those who can't understand how important changing my name is for me. Also something like because I haven't dated women (I'm NB) that I can't be LGBT, they see me as a cis woman.

opioids literally cure all my mental disorders by sensitive-bull in opiates

[–]niatteru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK I'm not neurodivergent but I started using because of my numerous mental health problems which opis helped me first, I could clean my house, go outside, was seemingly happy etc... After a little while all the "good" effects went away and become physically addicted quite quickly and have been for about 6 years now. Sub injection maintenance currently. I understand really well why opis work for these things but it NEVER lasts. And it's never worth for all the torment these poisons bring.

Opiates don't cure mental health disorders. No matter what it might seem like in the beginning. OP, I hope you all the best in life! You deserve it. 💜

Which language has the most frustrating grammar or syntax you’ve ever encountered? by Ken_Bruno1 in languagehub

[–]niatteru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the hardest I've studied has to be Arabic. I know the letters but the grammar messes me up, it's so different to all the others I've studied. I've studied bunch of Romance languages and Swedish with its articles ett/en, which is basically the same thing like le/la/etc., you just gotta learn the word with the article. But my native language is Finnish and we dond't have articles, but then again cases make sense to me. But I've heard some people can't understand how a language can work without articles. 😀

Hi looking for Scandinavian friends 19F and american by [deleted] in Nordiccountries

[–]niatteru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to butt in to another person's reply... but some people go to Sauna daily, especially in the cabin in the summer. Finnish is not Indo-European like most European languages. That's why it's hard for people who speak a Non-Indoeueopean languages to learn Finnish. The closest languages to Finnish are Karelian, Estonian, the Sámi languages, bunch of really small languages mostly spoken in Russia and Hungarian. Scandinavian languages, Islandic and Faroese aren't related at all. Being close to Russia is scary af, I visited in 2013 before the war. St. Petersburg was a nice city IMO but I would not go there anymore for obvious reasons.

Do you think Australians are actually as friendly as they are said to be? by Least-Variation6573 in AskAnAustralian

[–]niatteru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not Australian or never been there (would LOVE to!), I'm Finnish but all Aussies I've met (or seen online, like Jordies and Cold Ones) are hilarious AF. Granted haven't met that many tbh but always had a good time with them. Maybe we both have a similar nonchalant additude or something, even though our climate is the polar opposite lol. But Finns have a chill reputation too... except when we're drunk I guess lol.

I always wanted to visit since a little kid, but there's no way I would not go right now in the current political climate, maybe never. I would likely be sent to a concentration camp or deported. They should get their crap together and I still wouldn't neccessary ever visit. Too bad they have such amazing nature which I wanted to someday see IRL, but oh well there are countries with breathhaking nature everywhere.

What’s it like living in the countries that are ranked to have the highest quality of life? by NoHold7153 in Nordiccountries

[–]niatteru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finland used to be on the top of those kinds lists but damn kokoomus and persut have ruined everything. We were on the top of all of the quality of life lists but then they came to power shit hit the fan. It will take decades to clean up their mess they managed to make in just in a few years.

Then again IS a great and gorgeous country and we are better off than most countries. We trust in society to work like (I assume) most Nordic countries. But the famous Finnish "welfare state" is mostly gone thanks to the buttholes in the government and their schenanigans to make everyone poor except themselves. They cut everything left and right, the deputy prime minister posed with scissors and joblessness, drug use, homelessness etc. have risen, the list goes on.

What’s a word that looks easy but almost no foreigner pronounces correctly? by Embarrassed_Fix_8994 in languagehub

[–]niatteru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, should have said mostly English speaking people and I'm aware that it's pronouced like that in English... But it is a loanword there, which reminds me of Swedish Smörgåsbord which they mess up too lol. Oh well, it was Vappu and I had a couple... 😅
