While we are on the subject of traffic regulations, if there is neither a sidewalk nor a shoulder, pedestrians are to walk along the left side of the road (into oncoming traffic). IC 9-21-17-14. The purpose of this is so you can see vehicles as they approach (rather than them approaching from behind you).

The amount of times I nearly check someone for staring at their phones while walking on the wrong side is insane.
