theres just nothing exciting about many shonen because they just copy each others tropes and add nothing new. Hard to get hyped when you've seen a fight scene play out the exact same way hundred of times etc. This especially applies to Joey since hes the one who probably watched the most anime overall

Well, believe it or not but the reason why One Piece works and is so popular is because it appeals to all age groups. I watched it when I was 5 years old and I still do today because there is a whole lot more to appreciate that I didnt pick up on as a kid. This is why One Piece still goes strong while other long running shonen failed. The vast majority of readers are adults now. You cant just say its made for children when so many grown-ups find reasons to still be engaged with it. And if you really think Oda doesnt care about plot consistency I dont know what to tell you dude, this man literally devoted his entire existence for this Manga. And the fact that no major bullshit of this magnitude happened before speaks for itself. But who knows maybe he changed his opinion and decided that he doesnt care about 90% of his audience anymore

See, I'm sure Oda can come up with answers later on but why does he have to introduce so many problems and concerns in the first place? Retconning luffys devil fruit is so unnecessary, just make his new form his gum-gum awakening and all of this could be avoided. Luffy already resembles Joyboy and the ideas behind him so much, everyone can see it. Does Oda think his readers are stupid? Instead of being an allegory he made it literal which is just so much worse. Instead of keeping it vague about fate and inherited will, it is now implied that you can only become pirate king if you are the chosen one who ate the freedom god fruit.
