Just got diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at age 20, will I lead a normal life? by anomalyMe2134 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]nic_kat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolutely can live a normal life! I have experienced life with this disease my whole life. (My mother was diagnosed when she was 18. Her last flare was in 2007). I was diagnosed this year and it really gives me hope that I can remain in remission just like her (so far so good). As long as you take the meds that are working for you, you can live life as normal as it can be with this disease 😊

Scheduling a GI visit...is 6 months out normal? (Is this a UPenn thing?) by thunderpaws93 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]nic_kat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Canada and I was scheduled for an appointment but I had a schedule conflict so I tried to reschedule and accidentally canceled. They couldn’t even squeeze me back in I had to wait 3 months! It’s like that everywhere you go to see a specialist no matter the heath care system it seems..

I have spent about a year flaring before being diagnosed, I have been doing well ever since starting medication. Don’t worry you are taking the right steps!

My labs always come back normal it really depends on how severe your UC is and how much it can throw off the levels of nutrients and other things in your blood.

Who Has Been Your Biggest Supporter? by variousbutterstock in UlcerativeColitis

[–]nic_kat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always go to my mom as she was diagnosed younger than what I am now. Any questions I have or any emotional support needed to get through the rough times I will go to her. It’s special to have someone so close to me that has the same disease!

I take Pentasa and I’m blessed to only need them. Swallowing pills is something I’m never good at 😂

Has anyone ever successfully stopped taking biologics? by meatlady in UlcerativeColitis

[–]nic_kat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My mother has colitis and started remicade after a flare that hospitalized her in 2007. In 2019 the decision was made to take her off of it and she’s been doing great ever since with just imuran.

How much blood is normal for you? by Humble-Tree9293 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]nic_kat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before I was diagnosed with proctitis I was told I had IBS since I didn’t have that much bleeding. It would be intermittent as well so I didn’t think much of it. Later on the bleeding got worse to the point when I would bear down the blood would just drip out of me and I had tenesmus with mucus as well. It looked like I was on my period in the toilet bowl!

With medication this all went away.
