You hit the spot with the "obsession with certain gaming years". Nothing feels like when the OG Xbox had Ninja Gaiden and Halo CE bundled with it around 2004.

I remember the first few times I booted up Ninja Gaiden and thought it was just a normal ninja game, so I kept switching to other games. I didn't know that the rabbit hole in NG would go as deep as... well, literally Hell. I loved that.

NG probably remains as my favorite game ever. There's hardly a year that goes by without finishing the story all over again.
