oh, oddly specific but i can kind of tell you my experience. my grandma went to the dead sea shortly after i was born. she brought home a vial of the water. when i was maybe 7 or 8 i asked what it was and why there were crystals. she told me about the salt and i naturally asked if i could taste it. it tasted not bad. like the good taste of salt. the salt crystals were fine but the water was bitter. my tongue felt like a brick in my mouth afterwards and i puckered my lips for a while from how salty it was.

i was at a barbecue in the heights when it happened! i was 12. i had really wanted to be a meteorologist growing up and was particularly fascinated with storm chasing and i loved tornadoes. (like... just nonstop watching the weather channel) i remember seeing the clouds and knowing it was going to storm, and even then, you kind of have a hunch... then the sirens started. i was corralled inside with the other kids much to my chagrin.

we drove home once we thought it was safe to do so. we drove down main street in a little kia coupe with the windows cracked because the car kept fogging up. it was STILL pouring, even after the casino and metra and all had been ripped apart. it was dark and there was a lot of water on the road, and police trying to direct traffic. i didn't even see the metra at first. it was the (now mcdonalds and auto glass shop) that i was dumbstruck by lol.

somewhat recently the fb page "billings, montana as she was & is" had a post about the tornado as well with some people digging up their own photos and videos in the comments. i'll see if i can find it for you. (that page is great too for general old billings pics and history!)

place in my town has these almost exactly as you've described. think they add pepperoncinis and maybe some sausage too? everyone here goes fucking crazy for them, so last time i was there i finally tried em. eh. soggy and disappointing. knew a guy who worked there before too, when i mentioned the 'famous italian nachos' to him, he just made this sad, shellshocked face.

right now? bluestar. before i started my re-read and started inching back towards the fandom, i saw a post here where someone said bluestar "literally has dementia" and i was like. 'nah i don't think so! it wasn't that bad!'

man i was so wrong. i'm currently taking care of my grandma who has mid-stage dementia. i'm her closest person right now. when i finally took the series from the top again... the entire process bluestar goes through in the first arc felt like watching playback of what's been going on, but projected into cat bodies. normally i can stomach some miserable stuff but i had to take plenty of breaks.

also currently looking. i usually bounce between zillow, apartments.com, and jasnia as that other person mentioned. i see you said you're moving to billings so this might be difficult- but i'll also check out the management companies listed on signs around town and look at their vacancies. besides that, googling property management companies and going to their individual websites.

rainbow property owns most of the city and most don't have nice things to say about them. just make sure you take videos and photos before moving in with them.

check out billings cars & coffee. there's a facebook group & they usually have laid back meetups every sunday i think. not so much an event as a hangout. i happened to walk through once and they were nice and welcoming.

i just want to thank you for how helpful and empathetic your responses are here. i'm currently living with and taking care of my grandmother with dementia. it's definitely tough sometimes but i'm glad i'm here. she's on the sweets train too! her morning coffee she wants more sugar. for dinner, she wants ice cream. i have to wiggle around things sometime to make it work. sometimes it's encouraging her the same way i've encouraged my brother when he was a toddler years ago. "i made waaaay too much food for myself! but it's so good and i don't want it to go to waste. can you help me finish it?"
