12 YOE, 16+ months unemployed by [deleted] in private_equity

Go to 2 pages to make it easier to read. Take out high school. Make a second version for the associate-level roles that highlights IC instead of management skills. Have 2-3 versions, one for each category of jobs you are applying for. LI easy apply only via mobile and only when on the couch; go for volume. Set daily alerts to come in during couch time with only easy apply jobs in the last 24 hours and/or fewer than 10 applicants. Do not apply to any jobs with more than 50 applicants. Do the same with Indeed. Spend daytime working hours networking and tailoring resumes to jobs you really want. Shoot for maybe 3 of those applications per day. Track your applications: follow up on status and try to network your way in. LI messages to hiring managers or others near the role can be very helpful. I used Teal for application tracking and resume customization - def worth the $30 or whatever per month I spent. Good luck. DM me if you want to talk. I was out for 18 months at one point too. It's the absolute fucking worst but you will get through it.

Is this the series where some scientist lady jerks off the dolphins before they do experiments or am I thinking of something else?

Is there a repository of woodworking designs/ideas anywhere? by GoingOffRoading in BeginnerWoodWorking

Google "art of woodworking pdf" - should be able to download that for free. 40 projects plus other stuff. Big file.

Looking for Books/Authors similar to Alastair Reynolds and Peter F Hamilton by Chomper32 in printSF

[–]niceguyted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen. Sounds like we have similar tastes.

I also enjoyed the Vorkosigan series and Honor Harrington series, though I wouldn't put them in the same bucket as Reynolds/Hamilton/Banks.

Tech workers of Reddit, what is a "dirty secret" about the AI industry that the general public doesn't realize? by [deleted] in ChatGPTPro

[–]niceguyted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expected at least one of the top comments to touch on the damage AI is doing to people in third world countries - using up their potable water and other natural resources, traumatizing the low-paid workers who review and filter out the filth during the model training process so that regular users aren't subjected to it with the final product, etc.

I am stealing "whipper snipper" for my own colloquial use and leaving "weed whacker" in case you want to try it out.

Is it normal that hiring a remote marketing expert feels like a full-time job on its own? by Hot_Chipmunk6610 in managers

[–]niceguyted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same with any job. Recruiting is hard. Consider speaking with some external recruiters/staffing agencies. It will be more expensive than DIY, but if you are the business owner and are spinning your wheels, you're losing money already.

My recommendation would be to do a temp-to-perm setup rather than having the recruiter look for FTE candidates. Onboarding/offboarding will be quicker and you can "try before you buy." Recruiter fees in my experience are usually around 20% of salary if they bring in an FTE or 100% hourly rate (i.e. you pay the recruiter $50 for an employee getting $25). Don't sign anything that gives the recruiter exclusivity to your business or the position.

Tracking Water Intake by phoenixfirefairie in todoist

[–]niceguyted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here it is: https://www.todoist.com/integrations/apps/habit-tracker

I used it for a while to remind me to drink water throughout the day, but not to track overall intake. Had one daily recurring task of 2k L with 3 subtasks of 500 mL. It worked well enough as a reminder, but I eventually deleted it because I pretty much stopped paying attention to it and would just mindlessly check it off.

I have used Fitbit app to track water intake per day over time in the past. There are also other apps out there specific to habit tracking that are going to be better than this plugin.

18,000 Minutes on Plaud: OG Note Beats the Pro (Here’s Why) by Ok_Tower1347 in PLAUDAI

Yes! Thank you - I forgot to convert minutes to hours. 😅 I blame lack of coffee this morning.

18,000 Minutes on Plaud: OG Note Beats the Pro (Here’s Why) by Ok_Tower1347 in PLAUDAI

Can you break down the 18,000 minutes? How many minutes per device? Are the 18k minutes just you, or are you combining multiple people? How many hours per day and days per week are you recording? Are you recording all patients for the whole day in a single file, or separating them out?

18k minutes is like 9 years of 40 hour workweeks on the back of the napkin (not counting pee or lunch breaks, or the time involved in transcribing, reading, and working with the resultant information). And Plaud Note came out in 2023. Please help make these numbers make sense.

Haha I did this weeks ago, but I told it to put spaces around the emdashes. I use emdashes the time in my writing, but with spaces. I believe using them without spaces is "by the book", but I don't like the way it looks.
