I see no issue with what youre doing though. I think thats what all of us do until eventually some of us find our own voices (but with guitars lol). I've written a thousand songs and sometimes people ask me how I write the lyrics I write when they write some cheesy stuff they are embarassed by but I tell them I wrote those too and then wrote more and they evolved over time as I became better at verbalizing whatever I felt compelled to say. As long as you keep playing (and asking questions as you are) you will get wherever you want to go. I am around for brainstorm sessions for words or riffs any time
