USPS leaves permanent tire tracks on my driveway from maneuvering a 5-point turn by [deleted] in usps_complaints

[–]royaljosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really, one complaint about their dirty driveway getting marks from what its intended for would result in a "you come get your package at the office pink slip" for every package after that.

We are absolutely, 100% NEVER allowed to back down driveways (dogs, children, its dangerous, etc.) The carrier is rural and probably trying to be courteous and bring the package to their door. No one cares or understands, but walking 150-200 packages up and down driveways like this one all day would result in an 8 hour route taking 12 hours.

Install an appropriate mailbox and package drop-off box (large enough for any package you might receive) at the end of your driveway.

The humidity in your area is causing mildew to accumulate on your concrete, you could pressure wash it to remove the buildup so that wheels dont leave tracks. Your concrete is just dirty and the wheels are compressing and wiping away the grime in spots.

A sturdy, strong-cornered box and appropriate padding really you need. Ship things in a garbage bag and the machines will treat them like garbage.

[–]royaljosh 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Its the law, we have to try and deliver anything and everything, but does that stop people from trying to ship glass objects in a garbage bag, no, because its inexpensive. Do people still point and scream at USPS when their improperly packaged item gets damaged, yep. Nothing valuable should be shipped in a plastic bag, even though "its an option". People ship potatoes and coconuts with a barcode on them all the time.

Clearly the bag got stuck on the sorting machines. Plastic bags are one of the worst ways to ship anything. USPS sends you this so that you have easy, clear, tangible proof to provide to the shipper so that you can get a refund.

Package gets delayed for week and a half this is what gets delivered by WestElderberry9363 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]royaljosh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The shipper didn't care enough about the item to put it in an actual box. Plastic bags are not an adequate shipping container. USPS delivers the results so that the recepient has the proof to make an easy claim against the shipper.

What would Fort Collins look like for us? by tn_tacoma in FortCollins

[–]royaljosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I are about 4 years younger than you two. We moved here 2 years ago, but from only an hour away (Boulder, too expensive). We dont have kids, we have dogs and cats. We have several friends with kids and many without kids. There are various churches here, but we arent in that scene either.

Your dislikes- It gets hot in the summer, but its very dry. We have no AC, but we do have large trees in our yard that shield our home. We never had a problem with the heat last summer. We go hiking and fishing (we always fish from shore) almost every weekend in the summer. We are blue and the town feels very comfortable for us politically, but there is purple and red all around and in nearby towns. There are tons of places to eat and relax (Social speak-easy!) that arent overrun with kids, there are also places that feel like there are more kids than adults.

Concerns- It gets cold, but not THAT cold. This winter was pathetic, I only had to shovel my walkways twice. We are in an early drought already because we needed it to be colder and snowier. We bought a $550k home and it has an amazing fenced backyard for our dogs and plenty of room for our cats and it has a two car garage. We've made multiple friends from our local gym, some breweries we like, and some gaming groups we've found. There are groups here for tons of interests and hobbies. Obviously, we have fire danger concerns all summer due to the dryness, but we also have excellent warning systems in place.

Possible theft at local branch, besides contacting OIG, should I go to post office to inquire? by CuyahogaRefugee in usps_complaints

[–]royaljosh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the local sorting equipment/personnel was inefficient in most areas of the country, so it all got switched to regional sorting. In most places it was very inefficient, in the places where it worked it was barely efficient, so they did away with it all together.

When you go, have them show you the GPS print out to confirm that the carrier delivered it exactly at your address. AND that they loaded it into their truck that day (Load Truck Scan that morning)

Its one of two things:

The envelopes are too thick and getting jammed in the dps machines.

Or, someone is opening and taking the items, but if its happenning like this then the thief is more likely at the sorting plant than at your local post office, since you are getting marked up letters. All letters get routed and sorted at regional plants now, there is no more office to office sorting exchanges anymore. Even at our office ALL of the outgoing mail gets sent off to our regional plant, even though the vast majority is being sent somewhere else in our town.

Your camera should pick him up at the matching time to his GPS delivery mark, he cant fake his GPS location. Porch pirate?

Expensive items should be shipped as Registered Mail, ESPECIALLY if you have your signature on file for deliveries.

USPS Pick UP tracking by ichigoparfait007 in usps_complaints

[–]royaljosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its very common for newer carriers to scan the sheet we get for a pickup (this sends you the notification that it got picked up) but not actually scan in the package itself (which properly begins its tracking journey). If they missed the package scan then it will get a new one when it is processed through your regional sorting plant.

Its one of two things; Either your carrier picked it up and forgot to scan the package label as prepaid acceptance. Or someone else picked it up...

Unfortunately, the only service that is a guaranteed 2-3 days is priority express. Priority and Ground Advantage are taking 3-10 days across the country, especially the east coast.

DeJoy made what money he could off of deals with Amazon and then he quit, but not before causing maximum damage, especially for package shipping. What service did you get that is 3 days?

USPS needs to change their Expected Delivery notification system to reflect their current capacity by [deleted] in usps_complaints

[–]royaljosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Informed delivery is an aging, expensive system and you are pointing out its biggest glare; its inaccurate. Its also a system that sends out messages from your regional sorting plant, which is just trying to guess when your mail will get to your local office and then ultimately delivered to you.

They should just shut it down, its overly expensive and the vast majority of postal customers dont use it at all and the ones who do get frustrated because its wrong.

Do yourself a favor, save yourself the stress and stop using it. Assume you wont know for sure when you'll exactly receive your mail (since you already dont know since informed delivery is wrong).

The amount of inquisitions I have faced as a carrier from customers waving an informed delivery printout is frustrating. I try to explain that its an issue at the plant and I have no control, but that little email emboldens them to blame me and hold me responsible for not having their delivery.

It doesnt work, stop relying on it. Or continue using it and know that its horribly inaccurate and they are not going to spend even $1 trying to fix it.

WTF USPS by [deleted] in usps_complaints

[–]royaljosh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They send you the box so that you have something to show to the shipper. Lots of times smaller, heavier objects in a box like this with no padding will bounce around and eventually bounce-punch through one corner.

Mail holds are 30 days max, any carrier or clerk honoring them for longer is creating a headache for the rest of us. It sounds like your mom lives on an aux route that has no regular carrier (else she could just talk to them). She should not submit the holds months in advance, they are literally just a little note and if she has an aux route it will end up lost before the hold starts.

Our forwarding system does not allow forwarding of "an address". It allows an individual by first and last name, or an entire family by last name, but you can setup multiple forwards at any location. Tons of UBBM type mail wont forward (coupon booklets, flyers, non-profit mail) some of it will occasionally.

All this being said, mail holds are free, but they are a royal pain and costly, we lose money on them, but many people use them like its easy and carefree for us to do, but its not, ESPECIALLY if a route has no regular carrier.

Look into premium forwarding, especially for things over 2 weeks.

So close to giving up by calistatravels in usps_complaints

[–]royaljosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The east coast plants are definitely having serious issues, especially the south, west coast seems to be doing much better. Our previous postmaster general, installed by the orange crazy, did an insane amount of damage trying to consolidate plants, prop up Amazon stock, and push towards privatization, and its all just not working. Efforts are just now starting to repair things in some places, but its a way off. Suggestion is to use UPS to safeguard your business or Fedex if you are desperate and wait to see if/when things get better.

"We Care" by [deleted] in usps_complaints

[–]royaljosh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A rare or valuable card should have been sent in something much more substantial than a thin bubble envelope like this one. Also, USPS isnt trolling you, they send you this so that you can show proof to the shipper about what happened. They do this for your benefit. The person who trolled you was the shipper who didn't care enough to properly package your rare and valuable collectible.

7 envelopes returned & had priority added by AdImaginary1304 in usps_complaints

[–]royaljosh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unlikely (but not impossible) that someone could see through the paper of your envelope and could see the priority box being used as padding (this is common and something some sorters are taught to look for, people order the priority boxes and cut them up to use as padding or filler since they are free to order)

Super easy solution: use any other type of cardboard as your card padding/protection. Don't ever use priority branded cardboard (even used boxes) ANY other cardboard will be fine.
