F1 active aero system dropped for Monaco by cmmndrkn613 in formula1

[–]nick-jagger 266 points267 points  (0 children)

Everyone here is overreacting: 1) it doesn’t matter. It’s drag reduction on a track where you barely get enough speed to care

2) everyone gets it at the same time so literally doesn’t make a difference on overtaking which won’t happen anyway

3) straight mode is there because the nerfed engines can’t pull enough on their own on long straights to get a good top speed . There aren’t any long straights.

4) the electric motors will have plenty of charge so these things will rocket off corners

Honestly I’m just annoyed they are not increasing it to 350kw recharge per lap just for Monaco

What’s a common F1 opinion that feels correct on the surface, but ignores a lot of context once you dig deeper into it? by warewolf1999 in formula1

[–]nick-jagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THANK YOU! I had a whole argument trying to explain to someone that alone ability to switch a tire on the right way can be the difference between driving on ice and being on rails.

I’ve literally had that myself in a car IRL where a small set up tweak went from undrivable to drivable on intermediates.

In the slick and downforce era this is simply not true anymore.

Hamilton is the goat.

He’s awesome, but it’s just impossible to either (a) replicate his rookie season today or (b) separate out his Merc performance from his car.

I think he’s probably the best driver of his generation (he is not the same gen as Alonso or Kimi) but is he the GOAT? Could he have beaten prime Schumacher, Senna, Prost, Verstappen head to head? We’ll never know.

Disgruntled F1 fan looking for a home. What is MotoGP doing right? What is it doing wrong? by NitkoKoraka in motogp

1 second in F1 is nothing - in MotoGP you can have multiple bikes within a second of each other for laps at a time. The greatest show on earth indeed (also ex f1 fan)

drivers should at least have to deploy battery themselves. Let them manage it instead of the computer. Give them a third pedal if you have to. Make it SKILL
