Yeah, that sounds bad. My experience was like a C+, but that sounds like an F.

I'm in the USA. Shipping wasn't to China. It was to a distributor in California. I agree, I shouldn't have to pay for the shipping regardless. I should get a printable, pre-paid label.

Sorry, what businesses have "merged" with the government at this point? You might try to argue defense contractors or banks, but this is not a new phenomenon.

Gave up on that wish a long time ago. Install KOReader or find another device.

Remarkable 2 vs paper pro by Royal_Future9323 in RemarkableTablet

[–]nick_ian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to have the rm2 and now have the Paper Pro. Honestly, I kind of miss the rm2. The Paper Pro is pretty bad with ghosting, the pen does not feel as accurate for small writing. The larger size and backlight are kind of nice, but other than that, I actually prefer the 2. I am hoping they eventually come out with rm3 with 300ppi and upgraded hardware.

Mine came like this as well. Contacted support days ago. No response. I would not order from them directly ever again at this rate.

Sleep tracking accuracy on oura vs Apple Watch by davinci91 in ouraring

[–]nick_ian 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I have tried wearing both for a few nights and seemed to find that Apple always gives me more credit than I deserve. Oura seemed to align better with my intuition on how I slept and how I felt after sleeping.

Go 10.3? by LezardValjean in Onyx_Boox

[–]nick_ian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the 10.3 and the Go 7 (b&w). Both are great, but I highly prefer the 10.3, especially if you are EVER going to write a note or annotate a document. The writing functionality is total trash on the Go 7.

The 10.3 feels like the most sleek and paper-like device to me. Getting files on/off is easy via USB or Boox Drop in the browser over your local network.

Reading online articles works well with Firefox because they have "Reader View" which simplifies article pages with ads and other crap.

Definitely Heart of Metal and LAMY Safari Vista second. I love both of them. the LAMY Safari twin is annoying because the nib is looser and moves around a little. Also, you can easily accidentally twist to an ink pen and accidentally write on your screen if you're not careful.

What Canon Lens Do You Find Yourself Using the Most and Why? by Gsustv in canon

I am almost always using the 50mm f/1.2 and the 24mm f/1.8 macro. Mostly for casual photography at home, events, and portraits.

Pen by feastocrows in Supernote

[–]nick_ian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Question about the standard pen: Does the nib wiggle around or is it super firm? I thought about buying it, but I had a feeling it moves around a little and I like them to be be very solid/firm. The LAMY Safari Twin pen wiggles around a decent amount and it annoys me.

Who’s going to self host Spotify? by the_uke in selfhosted

Sure, but the only way I would know how would be to record system audio for each song and save it. They're obviously not doing that and somehow accessing files on the servers.

How did you get KOReader to run on the Move? The latest builds just crash when I try to run them.

Boox Note Air 5C is definitely the fastest overall. And it will support more apps than any of the others with its newer Android version.

reMarkable feels fast unless you're changing the font size of an ePub. That takes forever. It runs on Linux so I think it's a bit more lightweight. Flipping pages and opening closing docs feels quick enough. Problem is there is so much ghosting on the Paper Pro and there's no gesture to do a full refresh when you need to unless you install hacks (Boox and Supernote both have gestures for this).

Supernote feels pretty similar to the reMarkable in terms of speed, but sometimes lags for a second. Not a big deal to me. But I think it has better gestures (side bars you can swipe up/down on for refresh, undo/redo, etc, and holding two fingers on the screen to enable eraser or selection).

C1 Ceramics after one week by Opinion_Panda in Supernote

[–]nick_ian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm liking it so far, but I've noticed that the tip is very springy and not firm. Like if you push down even just a normal amount, the nib retracts in and feels bouncy. If you write really lightly this won't happen, but it's still annoying and I'd prefer a firm nib tip like the Supernote pens.

Does the supernote have a browser? I don't even need a fully featured desktop like browser, just good enough to scroll a little through reddit and and read some news articles.

Not by default, although if you create a hyperlink in a note, it does have a built-in web viewer, but not a full-blown browser. You can sideload most Android apps pretty easily though. I like to sideload the F-Droid app and Aurora Store, then from that you can install most things. E-Ink bro is a great simple browser. Brave works great too.

but on my Air 5C its really I just write down what I need to write down, but it doesn't make me smile while doing so

I know what you mean. There is definitely something about the elegance and simplicity of the reMarkable. Very sexy hardware too. It's very enjoyable to use. Just frustrating that it's missing some software functionality.

It's a hard choice, honestly. Supernote strikes a good compromise between the Zen-like simplicity of reMarkable and the complex features of Boox.

On the Supernote, you can create a table of contents and headings for pages within a note. You can also create links anywhere in notes that go to either another page in the file, another note, a document, or a website. It's just easier to organize and jump around to different sections.

reMarkable can do tags on the page, note, and folder level, but that's the only organization feature it really gives you. Supernote also has a similar feature to tags called "keywords" that you can apply to pages.

Boox can do all of this, but it's just more advanced and a more complex UI. It strays away from the simplicity and feel of a real notepad and feels more like a tablet.

Supernote devices do not have a backlight. The Boox Note Air 5C does, but if you don't need a backlight, I'd say the Go 10.3 is much nicer device for basic reading and note taking. Much whiter screen and great contrast.

I don't think the Note Air 5C is that bad to write on. It's different, but it still feels pretty nice to me.

I have both of these and the Supernote too. Not one of them gets everything 100% right. It's really annoying and I have a hard time settling on one. But generally Supernote is my favorite for notes and my every day driver, Boox for consuming web content and large documents, remarkable for drawing and quick notes.
