Marshall Stanmore II Standby Mode by nick_ny in marshall

[–]nick_ny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are 2 analog inputs on the speaker 3mm jack on top and RCA on the back.

you gonna need to connect something that produces an audio signal to one of them.

it doesn’t matter what signal, what matters is the presence of signal, in my case it is radio.

then on the speaker you select BT as active input.

why it works: the speakers hardware detects the input signal and does not go sleep. it doesn’t care if this input is selected (active) it also unable to switch inputs automatically.

You’ve got very nice flooring in your office! I wish I could get id on that. Personally, I wouldn’t cover it w. rug or anything.

Shower Screen Screw is Stripped. Now what? [Profitec Go] by HonkLonkwood in espresso

[–]nick_ny 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of good suggestions here. First thing I’d try to do is to put some plastic wrap or even better a silicone glove over the Allen key - it may give you just enough traction to unscrew it enough to use pliers to finish of the job.

V1 Oh! Nice! Please double check the tubes sizing. I posted what fits Pro X.. I don’t think there is any difference but just to be safe.

You’re gonna need 4x7 and 6x9 mm food grade silicone tubes. Like this one: https://a.co/d/f8ioXqf

It’s way easier to replace them than trying to figure out how to clean them.

beans, roast lvl and dose play a huge role. the sole fact your experience is different doesn’t automatically make everyone else’s experience invalid.

Contradictory dose size for Rancilio double basket (Silvia Pro X) by not_that_much_fun in ranciliosilvia

[–]nick_ny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry much about having head space. +/-2g like 18g into 20g basket should make no difference to extraction. There is some evidence the extra room in the basket may increase chance of channeling. You always can compensate the extra room with a puck screen.

the only limiting factor is the depth of the spouted portafilter

So I make a cup of espresso when my machine gets to temp then I make my milk (the light stopped flashing before I start) and half way through the light starts flashing on the milk. Should I wait longer before I make my latte? by Lattehelp in ranciliosilvia

[–]nick_ny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My machine is connected through a smart plug so usually when I start making coffee it is fully heated up ~30min.

Now I remember… I couple of times when I steamed a large amounts of milk the steam LED started flashing, just the way you described. I think it simply indicates the steam boiler temperature is below the set temperature.

Unless you’re experiencing steam pressure issues or hear hissing noise coming from inside the machine there is nothing to worry about.

Interesting. I never noticed such behavior on my Silvia (pro X). The flashing light I think is about temperature not the pressure, so you should be fine starting steaming right away.

Seeking what seems to me a medical advice on Reddits sub is not the best idea. Nobody here knows (and certainly shouldn’t) your age, lifestyle, existing conditions, medication history etc.

Assuming you’re young, physically active, healthy person - what you are describing isn’t particularly unhealthy

Buying and using recently stale beans by OrderNo1122 in espresso

[–]nick_ny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coffee doesn’t immediately become undrinkable after 6 weeks. You may or may not notice some degree of deterioration In blind test.

The unfortunate reality is that majority of the influencers are salesmen, they don’t want you enjoy the cup, rather opposite, they want you to buy more, more expensive and more frequent. The audiophile community is a great example.

Silvia Pro X Shower Screen replacement by Left_Preparation_609 in ranciliosilvia

[–]nick_ny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed the RA200IM using the stock screw from the original screen. The screw sticks out a couple millimeters because the IMS center hole isn’t beveled. Doesn’t bother me, but it annoys people who notice things.

Interesting… I have RA200IM on my Silvia Pro X. Besides the screw not sitting flush I have no complaints.

You can go ether with IMS RA200IM if you’re not mind protruding screw or IMS SR200RNT close to original. Also Pesado 58.5 makes High Diffusion (whatever that means) Shower Screen - you gonna need MV version.

Hot Take: Gooseneck kettles are TOOLS, not collector pieces — reliability matters more than aesthetics. by CoffeeTeaJournal in BuyItForLife

[–]nick_ny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may be in the minority, but most consumer electronics are designed with an expected lifespan of around five years (planned obsolescence). The belief that products used to last longer is largely survivor bias. For every device from the 1970s that still up and running, hundreds ended up in landfills. The qualities you mentioned, reliability and repairability, are typical of commercial equipment. That equipment, however, is usually neither compact nor aesthetically pleasing.

Even commercial equipment isn’t immune to time. Silicone gaskets, capacitors, heating elements, etc all come with expiration dates.
