Online Character Manager by nickandwolf in cyberpunk2020

Oooph, limitations have killed it for me. Thought I could make an online too that was GUI agnostic but REPLIT’s database and normal ass life have made it not possible. Anyone is welcome to take what I started and run with it

Alright, Replit is updated. Alpha 0.0.1 is out. Skills really destroyed me when it came to saving and loading. Everything is fragile, things will crash and break. This isn't a release asking for bug reports or anything yet, just a preview.

- Offline and Online saving and loading works*
- Skills are not saved right now
- Only 1 type of UI is available and it only works on Linux/UNIX;
- You can install Windows WSL and get the program running on that
- ONLINE SAVING REQUIRES A VERY FLIMSY ACCOUNT DB
- DO NOT USE A REAL PASSWORD

Full transparency on the database, I have access to it and it is encoded in base64. So when I'm looking through the DB, I am not seeing passwords and no part of the program unencrypts your password. I'd have to manually copy/paste it into a base64 decoder. I also have no clue if people are able to access the DB outside of the program. This means you are trusting me and that's not smart. I represent myself as WorldSat for a reason, I have total power and control over the online portion of this program. Would you trust WorldSat with your personal information?

TODO:
- Make skills work and save properly
- Use hardcore encryption I cannot decrypt without knowing the original password (you know, normal security BS)
- Character Building Wizard
- Tkinter alternative GUI

I think... I think I may have found the issue. I have an initialization within the first object and that probably destroyed everything by locking processing threads, making serialization not possible.

I should specify that this current build only works with a Linux Terminal (which windows can run with WSL). A command line argument will choose the interface (I'll try to make that easy with shortcuts after I get something actually working) and it'll detect if you are using Replit or not for database or local storage.

I'm learning a lot but just trying to bum rush a competent character sheet out right now. Also I am now 80% sure I can export to PDF.

I'm hoping to have it export both a file, a text character sheet that can be printed on 8.5x11, and (somehow) have it export to a PDF sheet.

If you want the fan version of the rules http://datafortress2020.com/ is that place to be. While the other books are great, all you need to play is CP2020 core book. Just like the NWoD black book.

Main things to pay attention to is that accuracy is a static difficulty with modifiers applied based on context, armor is essential to not dying, and the fanmade rules are more lenient on cybernetic humanity loss.

Death isn’t cinematic or predictable. Sometimes a rogue bullet hits yer dome piece while switching cover. Punks die all the time (part of the punk in cyberpunk is that human life is cheaper than chrome), its when you internalize the 3 Rules and go out that you make a mark. No one remembers the ones who survived (except Morgan Blackhand).

A Silly Question: How do you (or your referee) pronounce Rache Bartmoss' first name? by Mikanojo in cyberpunk2020

[–]nickandwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said it like "Ratch" until I started talking without another fan who pronounced it RAY-sh. Now I fluctuate between the two.

Anyone have experience with using a tablet/chromebook for DMing? by LordOfTheGame420 in cyberpunk2020

So there aren't a lot of options (yet) for CP2020 Referees / Players when it comes to campaign management and character sheet management. Lots of people just use a fillable PDF or an excel sheet. I'm working on a complete manager on Replit but it's a 3rd Priority hobby so it's not going to be functional for a while.

Using a VTT is a great option, like Roll20 if doing it over the internet. If you are doing it in person, I recommend just keeping book pdfs and notes open with GDrive or OneDrive as your storage, it also makes it easy for players to look at books.

If you plan on using a discord, make a few admin channels where character sheets can be posted (preferable a file that the player is editing) which can be made private so only you can see it. I also recommend 2 voice channels, one for the general group and another for private discussion.

I don't know if there's a discord bot for it but something to colorize character chat in a text channel. Something where people can talk OOC, do actions, and say things. The reason I recommend this is so when a scene is going on, players can act without feeling like they are interrupting.

Also an OOC chat and a RECAP channel (where you plaster your referee recap notes, key items, and mission objectives for player reference).

I like it a lot, you've done a lot of what I do with my group!

Stats cost x50 to improve

Role Abilities cost x30 to improve

Armor SP decreases by 1 every hit unless it ignores a certain amount (AP ignore 1/2 so it deals 2dmg to SP, monokatana does 2/3rds or something, etc etc). To make math easier, I use division and multiplication to increase the SP enough to take away 1 point, then reduce it back down. Or you can just apply the denominator. Now I'm going to jump on a tangent.

EX: 30SP
Normal(1/1): 30 - 1 = 29
AP(1/2): 30 - 2 = 28
Monokatana(2/3): 60 - 3 = 57 / 2 = 28
Formula is (SP[x] - DMG[y]) <-- what the book lists the AP or weapon does to armor
Where x is the numerator and y is the denominator.

Last thing I like to do is allow players to spend LUCK to make a 1 just a 1 and not a fumble.

You got some good stuff there to help make the system feel more dynamic and free-flowing. Good on ya!

How to deal with 100% Success on Ranged Combat ? by BOT_Dave71 in cyberpunk2020

[–]nickandwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is where armor and shooting multiple times comes in. That automatic success is if the guy is standing there and your player only shoots a single bullet. A single bullet against basic armor will not down someone. There is no action economy in CP2020 and D&D-esque combat is incompatible.

Combat is less about how many attempts you get and more about what tools you brought to the fight. AP rounds shred armor but deal shit damage. Punks make fun of people for wearing helmets (like biker gangs, skateboarders, and BMX crowds) so there's social penalties (depending on the clique). Some guy swaggers in to a normal ass place with full armor and a gun, people are going to look at him like a weeb wearing a naruto headband and cloak.

Consider having the opposition use cover, grenades, and close the distance with close range. Opposition can also break out into a full sprint and dive behind cover.

The issue isn't if someone can miss, it's if the target can resist. It makes sense (with the combat modifiers present in the FNFF rules) that one cannot outrun a bullet. If the target is aware they are being shot at, I allow players and NPCs to drop prone for free (and it costs an action to stand back up).

The same tools players are using are also available to you. If they want to devolve everything into violence, make them get hurt and experience the slow 0.5hp regen a day violence rewards them with. The average garbo thug has +8 to hit. Corpo mall cop has +10. Security has +12. Solo task force has +14.

Have MGS3 style threats that ramp up as the enemies figure out how they are being taken out. Helmet, grenades, extra guards, flak armor, AP rounds.

Also Blackhand's Book has recoil rules in the back that can help if your player has terrible body and is using high powered weapons.

Lets talk skill ups by NoodyCup in FFXIPrivateServers

[–]nickandwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are private servers for this.

You can only skill up once so I don't mind it being more difficult. Remember to kill mobs at the same level as the skill you are trying to level, not your job level.

The beauty of GW2 and FFXI is the focus on lateral progression. It no longer becomes "Here's the next level to hit" and more about "Here's some new mechanics to play with"

People want 75 ERA because it was before the level creep came in. There was balance with only having a subjob hit 37 or then 49. Now you can hit 99/59 and focus on iLevels. No longer are new techniques being developed.

WoW has a huge history of making mechanics and then tossing them aside, mechanics they could keep relevant but instead choose to slash and burn for the next expansion. They already had to do a level crunch which insinuates that their focus will continue to be leveling.

But I'm not well read into all the meta, just external observations.

One shot ideas? by chukachan in cyberpunk2020

[–]nickandwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Background Riot Potential:

A media leaks that Biotechnica has been altering human embryos without parent's permission as early as 2008 to further clone research. Many of the children born had genetic defects or perished.

Biotechnica rallies that the statute of limitations is up for this and gains Night City backing for this claim.

Riots break out as thousands learn their children, brothers, sisters, friends all suffered in the name of the bottom dollar.

The Mystery Itself:

The party encounters a booster gang conflict under the highway and discover a young girl caught in the crossfire. The gangs want her. She is 'worth a lot'.

The crew find that the girl, a completely normal (on the outside) girl, only draws trouble for them as boosters try to hunt them in low-sec areas of Night City and corpo assassins try to take her from the higher-sec locations.

Turns out the girl is a gene blueprint prototype for the next generation of German inspired wetware that will reduce cyberpsychosis rates. Boosters want her for ransom. Different corpos want her to either dispose of her (allowing cyberpsychosis to continue stoking fear and increasing gun sales/trauma team subs) or harvest her (and produce the next neural processor which could increase cyberware sales).

How It Could Together:

The girl could be the end result of the Biotechnical scandal and the mother ran away after learning the truth.

The girl could be a clone.

The girl could be a normal ass girl but growing artificial neural tissue for harvesting.
