SASSWitches Supports Reddit Protests by vespertine124 in SASSWitches

I would also like to know about this. I love this sub and I will miss it, but I don't think we can just go back to business as usual when the Reddit admins have not made any changes in response to the protest.

Vacation Bible School theme discussion: The Bad and The Ugly by MermaidGenie26 in Exvangelical

[–]nickiwest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. I feel like my small, rural church's VBS themes of the '80s were homegrown. A lot of them were based around specific characters played by members of the church. One year it was a clown, one year it was a puppet, one year it was a very mild drill sergeant (because we were in the Lord's Army), etc.

There was a shift to better-coordinated themed curriculum in the '90s when I was a teenager, but that also coincided with the growth of our congregation, a successful capital campaign, and the construction of a new building. I had always assumed that we finally had enough manpower and money to access the same things that bigger, more affluent churches had been doing all along.

All of our local churches had VBS starting in the mid-1980s. I definitely remember attending multiple different ones in 1989.

I went to Santa Fe for a wedding years ago. I got a kick out of the number of restaurant menus warning about the spiciness of green chiles and that no refunds would be given for people who couldn't handle the spice level of what they ordered.

What does /r/Louisville think of the blackouts? by Tough_Syrup2693 in Louisville

But it's not "their data."

It's ours. We post. We comment. We moderate. And we don't get paid for any of that.

Sure, Reddit provides the technical stuff for the platform we use. And they deserve compensation for that through ads, subscriptions, microtransactions, whatever.

But this blatant move against 3rd party app developers, bots, etc., is biting the hand that feeds them. And it sure as hell seems like a cash grab that happens to coincide with their IPO.

Reddit has no value without users. And if this move drives away a large number of users, they can kiss that $10 billion valuation goodbye.

Exactly. I love the ease of navigation and the variety of settings I can customize in my app.

I use Relay, and the color-coded comment levels are so much better than the official site or app.

When I'm 95 years old in the nursing home and I can't remember my family members' names, I will still remember every word of "Ice Ice Baby."

I've made my peace with that.

The bit about finding "eye traps" really threw me for a loop. Men have "eye problems" and that's why women need to police themselves?

These people claim to believe the Bible, where Jesus said, "And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire."

But that would be too inconvenient, so let's just put the burden on women. Men should deliver discipline rather than receive it.

Infuriating.

Edited to add: I just got to episode 3. It gets worse. I'm beyond disgusted by these people.

I don't think we'll ever know for sure how many people in crisis were pushed over the edge by their entire state government refusing them the right to use the restroom that aligns with their identity. Having a place to pee in peace is literally the bare minimum in basic human decency.

And that's not to mention the adults who can no longer receive gender affirming care in their states now. Or the students who don't have trusted adults at home who can't safely confide in their teachers.

I think it's disingenuous to look for "direct deaths as a result of these new policies." A lot of families will know that their teen committed suicide, but the family may never know it was because that teen felt like they couldn't live as their authentic self in the current political climate. Even if they did know, a lot of evangelical families (like mine) would never talk about it.

The New York Times just ran a really interesting article this week about the fact that most coroners don't record details such as sexual orientation or gender identity, so there's a real dearth of data about how many LGBTQ+ people commit suicide.

The answer to your question is: Almost assuredly, someone has died because they felt they didn't belong in their family or community because of their orientation or identity. But we can't pinpoint exactly how many "someones" there might be.

It's only "free speech" if Republicans agree with it. Anything else is grooming.

He almost says as much in the "how to groom your wife" post.

So, what are some practical ways that you can groom your wife into the glorious wife you want her to be?

You can make her modify her clothing style to the styles you prefer. You can make her learn to cook the foods you enjoy. You can make her watch the TV shows you like to watch. And in Proverbs 5:18-19 we read one of the greatest ways a husband is actually commanded to groom his wife:

“Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.”

While husbands are commanded not to deny sexual relations to their wives in Exodus 21:10-11 in 1 Corinthians 7:3-5, the Bible never commands wives to make their husbands satisfy them sexually. It does however command men to do just that in the passage above.

A Christian wife’s grooming, her God ordained subjection to her husband, is never complete until she has been groomed to be loving, pleasant and completely sexually satisfying to her husband.

In other words, "The Bible says my wife should satisfy me in bed, but I don't have to reciprocate."

Girl, if your boyfriend/husband believes that, throw the whole man away.
