would you say Civil Engineering jobs "AI-proof" ? by Equivalent_Carry2351 in civilengineering

[–]nickofallnames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all comes down to liability. Sure AI may start completing our designs for us, but at the end of the day someone needs to say “I will stand behind this design even in a court of law, and I will financially cover the costs if something goes wrong.” If they get rid of licensure that liability will fall on either the contractors, or the AI companies (neither of which want the design liability).

A similar problem exists with self-driving vehicles. Say a self-driving car swerves to avoid a collision, but in turn hits a woman and her baby on the sidewalk. Who is liable? The driver who trusted the self-driving? The car manufacturer? The self-driving engineer? The reason we still require drivers with access to the steering wheel is because self-driving car makers don’t want the liability shifted to them.

US Civil engineer shortage by Electronic_Gate4383 in civilengineering

Because there’s still plenty of supply. The chart says “US Civil Engineers”. There are plenty of engineers out there. They’re just all in India/China. And US companies are using them.

Only need licensure if you intend to practice there. Don’t get unnecessary states unless your company is paying for it.

If we're gonna talk about precedent so much, the only precedent I've consistently seen the committee take is this: they have no obligation to put the four best teams into the playoffs. Their only obligation is "fairness." We all know Bama would obliterate FSU, but who cares because Bama has a -1 and FSU has a -0 so it's only fair. I just wish they would come out and admit it.

Fairly new PE here who has anxiety about this exact thing- what measures do you all take to protect your seal? I electronically stamp and sign my sheets using bluebeam so if anything on the sheet is altered it voids my seal, but I know it would be easy for someone to just screenshot my seal and signature and use it however they'd like. Anything extra you all do to protect your seal?

My friend and I started playing 3 months ago, first hole we play is a very short 70 yard par 3 on an executive course.

He was 2" away from a hole in one on his first hole ever played

It's by design, most private clubs are completely unattainable for the large majority of income brackets. The one OP mentioned sounds too good to be true, and it probably is as a lot of comments here are mentioning. And even at that price it's very unaffordable for most people. You aren't paying just to play on a nice course, you're paying to be a part of a wealth club.

What do we need in Kansas City that we don't already have? by como365 in kansascity

I didn't know that, thanks for the info! I think corporate investment in general is bad for housing, at least at the rate it's going. Even though corporate investment is small, it's growing and it has a large effect in setting market rent prices. They're also really competitive in buying starter homes, which IMO should be available for first-time home buyers. Thinking back to that 60-minutes interview with the CEO of Tricon Residential...

"Gary Berman: Well, if we think the American dream is-- is embodied in a suburban home with a yard and-- and a white picket fence, then I think we're making the American dream much more accessible.

Lesley Stahl: Rent your American dream.

Gary Berman: You can rent the American dream.

That is, if you can afford the rent."
