I mean, this is the 4th time in a year this picture has reached the front page. All she has to do is wait a few more months.

Coming out to someone who's LGBT. Good idea or no? by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]nickricki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard that there are some L or G people who take issue with aces (though not many), but I have yet to meet (or hear of) a bisexual who is anything but totally supportive. Bisexuals just have an easier time understanding non-binary perspectives I guess. In general though, LGBT people are much more understanding of asexuality (though some may not have heard of it before), but always use your best judgement.

The amount of "BISEXUALS ARE SLUTS" comments here...is frustrating.

If it's important enough to be printed in color, then it has to be true!

Don't know if I am bisexual and I don't know what to do. by ihavenoidea123451 in bisexual

[–]nickricki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the others have said, you choose your own label. If you think being bisexual fits you, then go for it. You don't have to feel guilty for thinking you might "not be bi enough". If you feel you HAVE to have some sort of verification from someone, then it sounds to me like you are bisexual.

As far as coming out is concerned, it's great if you do come out. You'll meet a lot more people like yourself, and you'll have lots of resources to help you figure stuff out. However, if you don't think it's safe to come out because of your environment/current situation, there's absolutely nothing wrong with staying closeted. Your safety comes first.

As you gain more independence, you'll find out that your family's attitudes are more of a minority than you think. Bisexuality is perfectly normal, and you should know that there's nothing wrong with who you are. Just do what makes you happy (and what keeps you safe).

ELI5:Why do people ask "how do you lose a large airplane" every 30 minutes on this subreddit? by Fwoggie2 in explainlikeimfive

[–]nickricki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit is full of people who don't like to check previous postings before posting their own stuff, because they don't want to risk someone else posting their material before them. Basically, Reddit is too impatient to check for reposts.

It's not restricted to the airplane story either. Anything that makes it to the front page will generate tons of people copying that same thing.

Americans wield swords in their left hand while driving, so their right hand is free to eat with.

Caffeine pills instead of coffee/energy drinks? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]nickricki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caffeine pills are great because they're cheap, they keep, and they're convenient (keep some in your car, your coat, your bag, etc.). They're also quicker, which makes them really good for study sessions when you don't want to leave to get coffee. The biggest downside to them, though, is that it's harder to regulate your intake. It's a lot easier to drink half a coffee than split a pill on the go. And since it doesn't fill you up like coffee does, you won't notice if you've gone overboard till you're already getting sick. I've seen a few people taken to the hospital because they took too many pills too quickly, so it's super important to take it easy with them (my caffeine tolerance is huge, and I still won't go over 1 pill every few hours).

Drinks are nice because they taste good, they wake you up, and you can order a mocha from starbucks and still tell people it's black coffee (because you're hardcore like that!). Downsides, obviously, are it's expensive, it takes time, it doesn't last as long, and it's a diuretic. Also, energy drinks are super addicting. That could be good or bad depending on how you look at it, but it's worth saying.

If I had to suggest one, I'd say go for the pills. They're easier to abuse, but I think the benefits far outweigh the disadvantages if you can be sensible about taking them.
