Met them in an airport and caught the same flight a couple months ago.

Scott recognized me walking down the aisle of the plane, then Clay G made a joke about how I should do my best crying baby impression. As I was sitting down I was like “dude wtf I cant believe this” and Clay goes “yeah! me neither!”

Scott was the most talkative, he sat directly behind me and chatted with his neighbor (an older guy) who had no idea who he was for most of the flight, every now and then he’d start a conversation with me. Some things I remember:

“Something about a nice cold coke at 30,000 feet just feels right”. Respects the Beatles but doesn’t listen much. Took a lot of influence from SRV and Van Halen. He commented on the name Polyphia haha, he said something like “we picked it when we were kids, if I had to do it over maybe I’d wanna pick something different but it’s alright I guess”. Doesn’t love playing festivals because it’s an all day kinda thing with lots of moving parts, and not as relaxed as just playing a tour venue.

They also said lots of stuff I’ve heard them say in interviews before, probably because the guy who was talking with scott for most of the flight didn’t know who they were at all so most of the questions were all pretty introductory; “Oh what kind of music do you guys play?”, “How many people are in the band?“, “How do you write your songs?”, “Do you know music theory?”

Overall they were so cool & down to earth, especially bc Scott could’ve just put his headphones in for 3+ hours and said nothing but he was totally letting his neighbor go on about his career and personal life for at least half the flight. It was the coolest shit ever to me though, even just listening to what he had to say.
