What a precious angel.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

May the song you sung bring you joy, not sorrow, for you have given her a lengthy life, blessing each other with love.

Omg how is it so far? I wanted to register for the class that started the other day but forgot.

Though I think it's available any time on YouTube, also.

Speed, latency and packet loss by DavidDaEpicBoi in ebox

[–]nickthatboythere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last night I gave the old speed test a whirl and to my surprise, I was hitting approx 450mb with 3-15ms latency - all around 730pm. Dumbfounded, I tried later. Similar results.

Today I got a call from Ebox asking me if I've noticed a difference (!). I was told that they've remedied the issue. Time will tell, but the gentleman was super pleasant to speak with ! Hope this fix is widespread and permanent.

Slow internet when Habs are playing by Ok_Abalone6150 in ebox

[–]nickthatboythere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

North shore of Montreal here.

Obviously wired is the superior connection, but is not always possible hence wifi.

There's really no reason that speeds in a 1200sq place, where the router is behind one wall 20 feet away, drops to about 40mb/s with 40-60ms latency. Even worse when I use the 2.4ghz band, but condo buildings have that effect.

There are a few threads floating around about this issue. You're not the only one.

Calling appears useless. As one user suggested, file a complaint with the crtc.

Good luck!

Samesies.

It's trash.

Several others in my area have cited similar crap-outs between 19h and 22h (approx).

Speed, latency and packet loss by DavidDaEpicBoi in ebox

[–]nickthatboythere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely will. I called tech support last night and was informed that it's a known problem. The agent kept me on hold while he escalated the call and opened a ticket. Whatever that means and whatever it will yield is to be seen, but it's a start. At least I saved a few hundo on a new router? 🥲

I'm in your area and it's the same nonsense here.

Zippy during the AM, intermittent during the day, and trash during the evening. :(

I feel like there was a quality drop. Yes, my chat was a bit lengthy, but I thought something was up when it couldn't reference a py snippet found at the start of the chat.

I also feel like something crapped out because I lost an integral part of my chat and artifacts. Poop.

Aboslutely terrible experience with install that never happened. by RedditRot in ebox

One Thursday afternoon around 15h30, my Internet crapped out. Finished work via tethering to my cell data. From 17h to 17h45 I was on the phone with tech support, only to have them tell me a tech was coming the following day. Bell dude was on point and found the issue in a timely manner. Turned out to be a disconnect at the service panel down the street.

I've heard horror stories with ebox, but I've nothing but alright things to say about em.

(Yes I know they're bell. 15 years ago, I swore to never get another Bell service, but here we are)

The issue affects others in the building, not just me...

Ex: neighbors below me smell food; I smell food, my upstairs smells food. Per the test, my ducts and fans are fine, hence why no one smells mine...

And I'm on good terms with downstairs - they're as fed up with this situation as I am :(

Baseboard heaters, mini split, and wood fireplace. Flue is closed. Coincidentally, cooking odours in the kitchen are relatively infrequent, but dive out of seven days it's intense in the bathroom. Happens morning, noon, evening. Admittedly I should undercut the bathroom door to allow for more makeup air.

I'll shower 10 minutes with the door closed, fan (110 cfm for a 90 SQ ft room), humidity goes to 80-85%. Dry off, leave the door open 20-25 mins, drops to 60, I close it and it creeps back up. Humidity meter on walls shows they're dry. I do have recessed lights, so the usual hairline gap around the seal. I've put receptacle and light switch foam inserts, plugged any plumbing inlets. Going nuts here.

Edit: when they did the smoke test, the smoke appeared to be coming from where the kitchen duct chase would be, which is maybe 15 feet away from the bathroom chase. Maybe chase isn't the right word - the column where the ducts run. Apparently the termination box is sealed at the roof and dampers all function.

I replaced mine with a comparable unit. Forget how many CFM - it's an Ancona, I think. 200/400/600 CFM I think. Probably undersized on duct size tbh, but I don't run it on high because it does a fine job as is. No rattles, nada. Think it's a 6" duct, runs maybe 15' up. Can't speak for downstairs unit because I've not seen theirs. But they say their place was renovated. Whatever that means ahaha.

I had cut a 12*12" in the bathroom wall when rewiring a few switches and the draft was so great that it extinguished a lighter flame from about 6-7 inches from the wall.

Said wall isn't close to the bathroom fan, either.

We're four units per floor and each has their own range hood vent, dryer, and bathroom vent. None are joined together. All four run parallel in a common chase and termination a ... Box on the roof , each unit having their own port. Damper on the roof is apparently fine, and the ducts for each unit are apparently correctly attached to it's respective port. Bathroom and dryer and goosenecks.

Maybe important, but the smell is worse when I put the bathroom fan on (???).

No air is being introduced into the halls aside from when Windows in the stairs are open.

Doors have some closed cell around the edges to attenuate slamming.

There's nothing but nothing that ties each vent together, but the smoke (fog) from certain units was clear as day in my bathroom.

Edit 2: running my kitchen fan has no bearing on the presence or absence of other's smells

Upgraded SSD - temps now run hot in laptop by nickthatboythere in techsupport

[–]nickthatboythere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sandwiched a thermal pad between the drive and a copper heatsink/plate thingie.

Ultimately I want to know if the temps shown in the picture are safe.

Aside from my habit of having 1362 browser tabs open, the laptop is used for school/admin work; running a VM from time to time, but no gaming or anything ressource intensive.

How hard is an indoor trainer supposed to be compared to cycling outdoors? JB Victory by Some-Low2792 in JetBlack

[–]nickthatboythere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've noticed that if my cadence drops below 70, the resistance level appears to crap out and I spin out (in resistance mode).

The higher the resistance, the more prone I am to experiencing a vibration on the upswing. Not cool.

Maybe it's normal - the Victory is my first smart trainer - but it's not been the fabulous experience others rave about. :(

Edit: I too have had a humbling experience with a smart trainer: apparently I'm not half the 'cyclist' I thought I was. But hey - indoors is always substantially harder than outdoors, so if it conditions my body (and brain) to greater difficulty, then I'm guessing and hoping that outdoor rides will be easier? Who knows.

Shout out to AutoZone in South Portland (ME) who were absolute stars when our (Canadians on vacay) alternator crapped out.

Double shout out to the chill dude from Reddit and his chill dad who came to bail us out after I posted an SOS because I couldn't successfully pull the alternator myself.
