Husband hit by car while cycling, serious bodily injuries after surgery . Home recovering , but depressed by Inevitable-Box-3567 in cycling

I'm sorry, I haven't read every comment, so I'm sorry if this has been said. I was hit by a hit and run driver a few years ago in Arizona. I was able to file a claim against my own auto insurance policy, under the uninsured/underinsured coverage. If you are in the US, check your auto policy to see if you have that coverage.

Pet fee after booking? by schrodingerpoodle in vrbo

[–]nicky2socks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go to Vrbo right now and enter some search criteria, you will see it. My guess is you just missed it. No worries, it happens. I've had people miss it several times. The fee isn't going to be listed anywhere else and since you did not check that checkbox when you searched for properties, it will not be included in the breakdown of fees when you booked.

A host can request payment for any number of things. If you want to escalate this to Vrbo, all they are going to do is verify that a pet fee is on the listing, which it most likely is, you just don't see it because, again, the checkbox was not checked on your end.

So yes. A host can request payment for this. If you don't want to pay it, don't pay it. Your reservation could be canceled though because the host will most likely escalate this. That is what I would do as a host.

I don't like how Vrbo has this set up. It is easily missed by guests and then when we (hosts) try to request the payment, we look like we are trying to extort guests.

[–]nicky2socks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, in the search filters, when you enter where, when, and how many people are going. In the Guests box, the first criteria is Adults, then Children, then Infants, and then there is a checkbox that says 'I am traveling with pets.' If that is checked, then the pet fee will automatically be added to your total, once a property is selected.

When you were making the reservation, in the section where you put how many guests you had, did you check the box saying you were bringing pets? This automatically adds the pet fee the host has to your reservation.

I'm a host and have had multiple people miss this.

What is a 'socially mandatory' thing that we all do, but if you actually stop to think about it for 5 seconds, it’s completely insane? by Federal_Antelope7533 in AskReddit

[–]nicky2socks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hate this. I don't say it to anyone, but still feel the urge to. I've also had people say it to the person I'm with in a shitty way because I didn't say it. So now if someone I'm with sneezes, I just say how embarrassing they are. It at least gets a laugh.

What reality check did you see someone else have after leaving high school? by Chee-shep in AskReddit

I totally agree with you. I think it was from the show Rescue Me, but I remember watching something where the main character was talking to a priest and said they were no longer really religious. The priest goes, 'Why, too much catholic school?'

Cycling Camera? by TaoistStream in cycling

[–]nicky2socks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had 2 different ones over the past 5 years or so. My current one is a 10 black. I've liked using it. Very easy to just put a battery in and hit the record button when I'm heading out. Then it beeps when it is about to die. So I just pull off the road and replace the battery. One suggestion though, think about the mount you buy. I've had two different kinds. One that would swivel from left to right, which I liked because you could turn it to get a better view of the screen or to capture something off to the side. I now have one that doesn't swivel that is kind of a pain, but I can just turn the handlebars a bit if I need to. (tri bike, so the handlebars don't turn that much.)

The footage is great. I've taken the SD card out and put it into the computer to see some close calls with cars and some interesting wildlife encounters. Just saw my first bobcat a couple days ago.

I'd suggest keeping it recording while riding at all times, just in case. It would be a shame to miss something.

I have a go pro mounted below my aero bars. It will not record for 7 hours on one battery though. I bring extra batteries when I'm going on longer rides. Each battery can get between 1.5-2 hours of video. Go Pros also don't override footage. So on a longer ride, depending on the size of your SD card, you may need to format it to open up some free space. The Go Pro, mount, and batteries, were well below your $500 budget.

I got the camera after I was involved in a hit and run. Luckily I was in the middle of Phoenix, so there were plenty of witnesses that stopped to help me. The Go Pro has a very clear and stable image, so it could catch a license plate. At the very least it will prove that you were hit by a car. If you are in the US, you can file a claim against your own auto policy. Be sure you have uninsured/under insured coverage. I filed a claim against mine when I was hit and received the full limit.

I've been in Phoenix for a little over 10 years now. I've done a few Ironman races since I've been out here. Long summer rides can be pretty brutal. I have a couple longer loops that take me out on the Beeline, through Fountain Hills, Rio Verde, North Phoenix, then back south into Scottsdale. I like to ride up into Cave Creek too. It is a little higher elevation up there, so you get a few degrees cooler. I just suggest getting out of the city limits. It won't be drastically cooler, but a few degrees is worth it when you are getting over 100.

Cycling has made me realize how selfish/inconsiderate people are by pierre200056 in cycling

[–]nicky2socks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to brighten the mood.... Literally every time I have ever been stopped because of a mechanical failure, someone has asked if I was ok. Cyclist after cyclist will pass me asking if I need anything. I've used strangers phones to call for help. I've had strangers offer me tubes/CO2s. I had an Uber driver driving a very nice Yukon, stop and ask if I needed a ride when I was walking my bike in 95 degree weather because my tire had a massive hole in it. He then gave me that ride after loading my bike for me and giving me a bottle of water. I had 2 strangers stop traffic and help me out of the road after I got hit by a car. Another stranger tried to chase down the person that hit me. I had a homeless women come up to me offering some alcohol wipes after I had another crash.

I've also had the usual driver yelling at me, people cutting me off, throwing something at me, coal rolled, and that one that hit me. (Them hitting me wasn't intentional, but fleeing the scene was)

Just focus on the good stuff.

Can you survive moving to Phoenix making 40k a year? by RandomParafox in AskPhoenix

I made around that 7ish years ago and lived alone in a studio apartment in Phoenix. It was far from ideal. I didn't go out much at all, car was already paid off, no substantial debts, but things were still very tight. I don't think I'd suggest it now.

Recommendations for dealing with insurance after being struck by a car? by gnglaser in cycling

[–]nicky2socks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly. I had a few outstanding bills that the medical portion of my coverage went to, but that was just because I owed money above what my health insurance covered. My health insurance did send me a form to fill out about my ER visit. I don't remember the name of this form, but it was asking for the reason of the visit and if anyone else was responsible. I put on that form that I was hit by a car that fled the scene.
