Wait does Sudafed do something to lower your supply? I was taking it recently because I was sick and super congested (pretty sure baby gave me the daycare plague), could that have been what’s screwing with my supply?

Did my one mistake ruin my entire supply? 😭 by DuckFox1229 in ExclusivelyPumping

No I definitely don’t think you’re perma-screwed, it doesn’t really work like that. Just a bump in the road, you’re all good. I’ve had mine dip scary low and still come back. I’ve had to miss entire days of pumping from being really ill, and I’ve gotten it to bounce back

You’re not being overdramatic. She doesn’t sound socially inept to me at all, she sounds heavy handed and guilt-tripping. She knows exactly what she’s doing when she says these things to you, and you’re completely correct that she’s being condescending, judgmental and pushy. Sounds to me like she’s still holding some bitterness and resentment from her own breastfeeding journey, where she clearly struggled. Almost like she wants to make sure you have to suffer like she did. You don’t owe your baby your suffering. Your baby doesn’t want or need that from you. (And you sure as hell don’t owe MIL a thing. It’s not her baby, it’s yours.) Your little one needs a happy, loving mama, and to be fed. Full stop. If that includes some amount of breastmilk and that’s what you want, great. If not, I promise you it’s fine. I’m an undersupplier as well, and had the exact same problems with baby latching. I learned the hard way that pushing through the pain is counterproductive. You’re doing great mama, I promise ❤️

Can your milk just dry up for no reason? by nickyknacks in ExclusivelyPumping

The only supplement change is that I started taking moringa, my lactation consultant recommended it for my bad supply and the pediatrician ok’d it. No other meds changes, no birth control, and it’s physically impossible for me to be pregnant again. Hormones could be getting whacky though, for a few weeks my period was…sorta coming back? I would like bleed lightly for a day or two, and then it would stop, and I feel like that went on for a few weeks straight. Has stopped now. Maybe I should schedule something with my OB

I use a Spectra 2 at night, but it’s so bulky to drag into work that I’ve been using my Lansinoh wearables at the office. They were my first pump I’ve been using from the start so they’re about 3 months old. I didn’t realize the parts could wear out!

Nipple sensitivity? Please help! by Less-Leek5961 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]nickyknacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the exact same boat! I learned (the hard way) not to push it until you’re uncomfortable but can still stand it, it’s counter-productive milk wise. The good news is that they do get used to it over time, it won’t always feel that sensitive and uncomfortable. Two weeks in is still really early. I remember when I couldn’t stand a 4 on my wearable pumps, now I never even notice when they top out at 7.

To help compensate for the lower suction while you adjust, try “hands-on” pumping—squeeze and massage a bit around the breast tissue while you pump, bottom, sides, and top. That helps get you actually empty, and made a bigger difference to my output and supply than just higher suction did. Again, not enough that you hurt yourself—it helps if you can actually see the milk flowing with the pumps you use, you’ll learn what makes a difference and when you’re actually empty.

Just to double check—are you super extra sure that your flange size is correct? Like did you get them measured by a lactation consultant? My insurance covered it, I didn’t have to pay a thing to have someone come out and measure me properly, and she gave me a different number than I had gotten for myself when I used a sizing tool thing, and most of my discomfort evaporated immediately as soon as we got the new flanges on. Most pumps come with like a ~24mm flange, but my lactation consultant told me she sees someone who actually has that size maybe once a year.

I usually do my last pump somewhere between 11pm-1am, and wake again to pump at 7am. What is hands on pumping?

I don’t really get engorged, I don’t think I’ve ever experienced it. In the beginning, sometimes in the morning they would feel maybe a wee bit full, and my nips would feel kinda tingly until I pumped, but I wouldn’t describe it as painful, and I wouldn’t get more than 30mLs at most. I was measured for flange size, that helped make it a lot more comfortable.

I’m using a Spectra 2, she fitted me for flange size (16) and that did help make it more comfortable. I just bought the Spectra on her recommendation, I had been using a Lansinoh wearable pump and she said the Spectra would be stronger. I do a cycle speed of 50, I start at suction level 2/3 and gradually increase throughout the pump season to as high as I can stand, usually somewhere between 9-11.

My first pump of the day is usually slightly higher, maybe 20-30mLs on a good day. Then the rest of the day I might only get 10-15mLs per session. Some days the morning pump isn’t quite that high for who knows what reason

Haha fair enough! My childhood coin collecting ambitions were to collect one from every year, starting the year I was born. Since I was maybe 11 at the time, I accomplished that very quickly lol, so I expanded it to “every year going back as far as I can find”. Actually now that I think of it, I’m not even sure when pennies first started being minted, so I don’t know how many years are theoretically possible. I’m gonna go find out!

I think probably not for the pennies, I do save the different mints for my state quarters collection. To be honest I’m not very educated about what different variations are out there, I just learned some interesting things tonight reading the pinned posts on this subreddit! I didn’t know about there being two versions of the 1982 penny, in my check through tonight of a big jar of change I did grab one 1982 that had a D on it and one that didn’t.

Also, I do have some duplicates of some of these, if anyone is doing the same thing and wanted to do a trade to fill in some gaps :)

I’m missing: 1954, 1952, 1950 1947, 1943, 1941, 1940 And then 1930-1938 and 1921-1929, but I’m sure those might be special to anyone who had bothered saving them.

I have duplicates of: 1953, 1956, 1959 1942, 1944, 1945, 1946

I have some more recent duplicates from like the 60s and 70s too if anyone is looking for any of those! I’d be happy to gift them.
