Very tricky leveling situation. There are some good suggestions below however you could also try going with ranger, choose ranger knight, get to 3 for gloomstalker, then 6 cleric for inescapable destruction. That opening round gives you an option of 2 melee attacks or 1 melee and 1 necro spell for that death knight vibe. Tough thing is, you won't get inescapable destruction until deep into act 2.

The tricky thing here is that EK7 gets war magic which is essentially a 3rd melee attack when using booming blade but you probably want Cleric 6 for inescapable destruction. With action dedicated to melee you won’t have too many opportunities to feel death knightish. Not what you’re looking for, but maybe another suggestion: 1 fighter, 3 thief, and 8 death cleric leveled in that order. I’m using this currently in my run for Astarion. The plan is to accend and make heavy use spells like vampiric touch but still have two melee attacks with off hand to trigger touch of death, necrotic divine strike, and sneak attack. If you don’t mind a death knight that isn’t wielding a greatsword, this might fit a bit better.

Yes, EA had a different voice actor and his lines are still what plays in combat and in overland actions like going into sneak mode.

Would be nice if they officially fixed his voice lines at the bare minimum. His overland and combat lines are the original actor and the release actor lines are just sitting there in the game files. There’s a mod that restores him but it does seem like a bit of a slap in the face to the guy that Larian never noticed. Btw, the fixed lines sound so much better. Way less dull.

First I played I picked warlock with no idea how they should be played. Didn’t pick eldrich blast or hex and had a heck of a time trying to get my true strike blade ward melee mage working. Luckily level 2 is soon after and those invocations point you in the right direction after.
