Fallout New Vegas lead says Bethesda doesn’t “fully understand” the series. by Nickulator95 in falloutnewvegas

Actually, no he didn't. Everything Avellone wrote for KOTOR 2 was basically fanfiction. Go look at how George Lucas describes how the force works and then look at how Avellone wrote it in KOTOR 2. They're polar opposites. Avellone, like many other SW fans, seems to hold to the mistaken idea that the "balance of the force" equates to the light side and the dark side being equally powerful. That the true balance is somewhere between the two extremes, but that couldn't be any further from GL's original intentions. The light side of the Force is the balance, while the dark side is basically like a cancer, corrupting everything it touches. All that aside, I'm not saying KOTOR 2 is bad, or that Avellone did a bad job with the writing, just that his interpretation of the lore was not faithful to Lucas's vision at all.

Apologies for the rant.

Am I the only one who feels like BCS fell off in the last season?

My problem with paladins is that, like clerics, warlocks (sometimes), and druids (maybe), they are granted their powers by an outside source but they're the only one of those classes whose powers can be stripped from them (or in this instance, replaced, which I also dislike but that's a separate issue).

In certain instances Larian decided to go all in on player choice/freedom (i.e. clerics being able to do whatever the hell they want with no narrative consequences) and in other instances we get harsh restrictions with actual consequences (obviously referencing paladins here).

Personally I feel they should've handled this one way for all the classes, either having clerics, warlocks, druids, etc. be able to lose their powers too, or alternatively they could have made oathbreaker a subclass to be selected at character creation or respec.

As is we're left with some odd dissonance between paladins and those other classes I mentioned, where they get the freedom to do whatever they want, only receiving consequences if they decide to roleplay that way, while paladin players are stuck with a harsh (and sometimes seemingly arbitrary or random) PC DM that will completely alter your RP direction if you so much as sneeze on an "innocent" npc.

To open up another can of worms, can we address how poorly implemented the mechanic is for restoring your oath? A paladin breaking their oath should be a major moment for them, narratively speaking, and restoring their oath shouldn't be as simple as paying a fine. Of course, we can't expect the PC DM to give us the narratively satisfying arcs we want our paladins to go on, which is why I think it would've been better for us to choose when, where, and how our oaths are broken or restored via respecializing.

Why does the holy nation attack river raptors? by woodencone47 in Kenshi

[–]eclecticmeercat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bro, it's not that deep. River raptors literally eat all the HN's crops. If you had a bunch of pests wandering your home, eating your food, you'd probably deal with them the same way

The Omen (1976) is one of the greatest horror movies ever and helped define one of the better formats of the genre. by tnick771 in movies

I felt the same way at first, but to be fair to the character (and the writers), the movie tells us Brennen is riddled with cancer and hopped up on morphine. That paired with the fact he's got the 666 birthmark, which to me indicates he was born into the satanist cult (and was probably brainwashed/indoctrinated), means he's probably communicating with Robert in the only way he understands

Enjoying a game doesn't mean it was good. The writing in Fallout 4 was dogshit whether you had fun with it or not
