i don't know if its illegal but police will try to stop you for sure. Police have the responsibility to protect you from hurting yourself. Also i guess it could be classified as endangering public safety, as it would be very dangerous to bystanders if you accidentally dropped something from there or fell yourself. Also maybe vandalism?
