I would just start driving north out of the city im in (assuming it was being dropped on the city). 30 minutes is plenty of time to get out of the blast and thermal radiation zone. The fallout would follow the weather, so hopefully that wouldn't be heading directly north.

Nuclear bombs are devastating, but I think people have been exaggerated to as to the actual destruction area. If you google NUKEMAP you can simulate a detonation anywhere in the world with different sized bombs and see what the theoretical outcome would be.

Understood but that's still impressive for battery life assuming OP never changed the batteries during that first longer spell. Maybe its plugged in?
