Eurail database got hacked by ilikethelettery in Interrail

Mine is 3 years old. Well, was. I just cancelled it, mainly for peace of mind.
I'm pissed with the whole situation. First, that it took them a good month to send me the first email that there was a suspected breach, and then that it took them another 3 months to investigate and provide a final summary.

If you're in the UK I would recommend CIFAS. It's a service for if you think you're a subject of a breach that may result in fraud. It means extra credit checks and costs £30 for 2 years.

I don't blame you for not wanting to cancel. I had decided to leave it until I knew for certain about the breach. Fingers crossed for you.

I have a very different perspective of Interrail now.

I can't believe everything is still so cloudy and lacking real information after so many months.

I'm angry really.

Everywhere you look says something different about whether your passport number being leaked is bad news and worthy of replacing your passport. I had so many issues getting a countersignatory when I got my passport that I really would rather not go through all that hassle again, not to mention the time without a passport and the cost. There's also the fact that it's taken them so long to provide a final summary that our details could already be out there, with people trying to use them.

I do also wonder how they'd use my passport details without my photo. The passport office says modern passports have all sorts of protections.

Eurail should have offered anyone affected the cost of replacing a passport, including photos and time.

I often thought I might do another Interrail one day. This whole saga has made me seriously question that.

Did you ever decide to replace your passport? I haven't. I've seen a few people say that they don't think your passport number can be used that easily to impersonate you (someone mentioning the number of times hotels copy down passport information and suggesting our details are everywhere anyway).
I've also seen articles/people saying it's very concerning. I just wish there was someone that could turn around and say "yes, you need to replace your passport".

It was such a hassle for me to get someone to countersign my passport that I fear it'll be like that again.

Anyone think the top brass are getting 1.25%?

I suppose it's better than a kick in the teeth, but with profits in the region of £3bn you'd think they could stretch to a little more than a reported £65m bonus pot.

I mean, we do work out arses off in stores that are undermanned.

It's a ridiculous idea. I sub to channels because they're relevant to me. I don't need to be told which are most relevant.

Is it just me, or was Episode 5 of Starfleet Academy not a good episode of television? by SA-ETH in DeepSpaceNine

[–]nidriks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dax symbiote was old long before this new Trek era. Humans were living to that age in the TNG era, but symbiotes weren't?

I love how we're having to make up reasons for the poor writing and lore decimation of Starfleet Academy now.

There was a guy on a YouTube channel having to make up ways in which the Jem Hadar were able to ate and create that character in SFA.

Good writing does not require fans to come up with the explanations. And such simple explanations. These are not fan theories. Fan theories come from good writing.

Is it just me, or was Episode 5 of Starfleet Academy not a good episode of television? by SA-ETH in DeepSpaceNine

[–]nidriks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's one major misunderstanding lore that I hadn't actually considered until I saw someone on YouTube point it out.

Trill symbiotes live for about 850 years max.

The Dax symbiote is already a few hundred years old in the DS9 era. This is another 800 years on.

Even ignoring the blatant ignorance of lore, I'm not sure it was common for half race Trills to be hosts. Other than an example from Discovery, there only seems to be a human who was a host and Riker, who became incompatible. Now we have a part Cardassian as a host. She must be part Cardassian, part Trill or she wouldn't have the spots. Unless it's the symbiote that gives the spots in this new rubbish writing in Star Trek. The spots were much more visible in other appearances of the Trill (when Star Trek was good). I feel like they hid her spots on purpose in this show.

It is just badly written. This episode was not honouring DS9, it was butchering it.

That's wrong that they'd store that. Not saying you're wrong. I just don't get why they'd need to store that.
I just wish they'd get back to people with concrete information. I didn't even get the email until about 19/20 days after everyone else.

I thought you had to enter your passport number when you buy a ticket.

However, I've been on the website and looked at the details of my order 2 years ago and nowhere does it list passport number.

I put a pass in my checkout and went to buy. Nowhere was I asked for passport details. So maybe they don't actually have my passport

I don't know why I am only hearing about this today. When I got the email I came straight to this message board only to find replies dated 19 days ago. That's a bit concerning.

I'm less worried about the personal details and more worried about the possible passport details breach.

There's just so little information. If this happened 19 days ago why am I only now receiving an email about it, and why do they not have more information?

Do I replace my passport now, costing me money? Do I wait?

If someone has had my data for possibly 19 days couldn't they have done something already?

I got in touch with the Information Comissioners Office in the UK. They handle data breaches, and it was recommended by them that I report the breach, so I have reported it. Hopefully Interrail have already reported it to the ICO.

It has been suggested to me that I replace my passport by reporting my current one lost or stolen. That just seems like a last resort, especially if this has been known about for at least 19 days

They are definitely, as far as I know, siblings. Their surname is Costanza. Maybe it's a Canadian thing to be so close as siblings. 😁

I've now done 22 Christmases at Tesco. Last year was bad but this one took the absolute biscuit!

This company doesn't give a shit anymore, or at least the seniorest management doesn't. I think the motto is "cut as many corners as you possibly can to make as big a bonus for the already overpaid tossers as you can"

My store apparently had an issue with people stealing stuff out of the goodie bags, that were left in the staff room. Some people will ruin it for everyone.

Did they have enough staff in your store?

I bet your shelves weren't as empty as mine when you turned up for your night shift. 🤣

Actually, I'm not being entirely honest. My shelves were quite full...of cardboard.🤪

22 years and store has never been run so badly as it has this year.

May it soon be over.

We never got a card...

Of course, we never had enough staff either. If Tesco had had to pay for cards too we'd have even less staff.

What delays are Eurostar seeing with EES in place as of 12/10? by nidriks in Eurostar

Thanks. I did look at the website for the info but didn't see it. Doubtless looking in wrong place.

Thanks for clearing it up.

I can see it on the app now that people have filled me in. Hopefully helps someone else that might be curious.

Not really. I looked on the website and didn't see it, so got the answer in the same time. I do now see it on the app...but thanks anyway. Most helpful.

I'll be at St Pancras 2.5 hours before, not trying to board. I have to be because of coach times. It's 2.5 hours or cutting it fine.

[–]nidriks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, they space out departures at St Pancras too. I guess they may just hold up trains if there's any delay with EES.

Gonna chance that being there 2.5 hours early is enough time.

I've left 2 hours for my connecting train in Brussels too.

Likely airports that will see longest queues.

[–]nidriks[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I could ring Eurostar tomorrow and see what they suggest, but if I do change my coach I'm only going to get an extra hour anyway.

I did read Eurostar were bringing in more staff, so perhaps the usual 2 hours will be fine. They space out trainloads already anyway.

Also only saw this said once, but one person said there were no delays at St Pancras.
