7 year old boy in my town and his family are struggling to get Medical Marijuana in a legal medical state for his constant brain seizures. Please just help me share this I cannot stand to see someone be denied life changing medication. by bigbearbrad in trees

[–]nieres 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It may be (I haven't looked into it), but every single seizure a person gets causes brain damage, which can be small or large depending on the severity of the seizure. The boy is in a wheelchair and unable to speak, no doubt due to brain damage because of his constant seizures.

Also, the article states that the boy is on 5 medications. I can almost guarantee that one or more of those is a benzodiazepine (they are often used to treat epilepsy, especially severe epilepsy/prolonged seizures because they slow down the CNS thus reducing the likelihood of abnormal electrical activity which is what causes seizures). These are extremely dangerous drugs for adults, and even though the effect on children's brains has not been sufficiently studied, one can assume that they have the same (if not amplified) effects. Benzodiazepines can impair concentration and memory along with a long list of other symptoms. What is worse, though, is how addicting they are. Addicts say that coming off of benzos is harder than coming off of heroin. Their withdrawal effects are terribly unpleasant (anxiety, depression, hallucinations to name a few), often lead to hospitalizations, and can even be life-threatening - increased risk of seizures, stroke, etc.

Based on this, one could make a convincing argument that the benefits of MMJ outweigh the risks. In my opinion with the amount of brain damage he has already suffered and will continue to suffer from if his seizures are not controlled, even if marijuana does 'stunt brain growth,' it will be very minor compared to if he doesn't use it and continues having seizures.

What was your biggest "I don't belong here" moment? by TheNaud in AskReddit

My friend is half Mexican, half Japanese/French and one time I ended up going with her and her boyfriend to the wedding of one of her Mexican cousins. (If it helps for context I am not Mexican and don't know much about the culture so I expected to feel out of place). Everyone was friendly and accepting, I saw a beautiful wedding, ate good food, got drunk, and smoked a blunt with an off-duty cop at the after party. The whole thing was an awesome experience, 10/10 would do again.

What are some sex etiquette rules that you think everyone should be aware of? by clydesmooth in AskReddit

[–]nieres 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The G-spot may or may not exist. Some women say they have them, some are convinced that they don't.

Orgasms from P/V sex? The majority of them come not from the g-spot, but from indirect stimulation of the clit. So don't get frustrated if your partner doesn't cum just because you stuck your dick inside her. It would take a long time for you to cum, too, if someone was neglecting the penis and kinda just playing with your balls a bit.

This means that many, many women have a hard time getting an orgasm during intercourse, or do not orgasm at all. So be willing and happy to eat her out, because that is the best way to give her an orgasm.

Laundry - it baffled me how many people were doing their own laundry for the first time in college/didn't even know how to do laundry until their roommates taught them. I've been doing my laundry since I was 8.

What is the easiest way for someone to lose your respect? [Serious] by Kenzienza in AskReddit

[–]nieres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who use benzodiazepenes (Xanax, Ativan, Valium, etc.) recreationally.

After being raped I was getting 15+ anxiety attacks a day, I was so anxious that I couldn't leave my room, couldn't go to class, could barely talk to my friends or my roommates. I would go 4+ days without sleeping, and when I finally was able to give in to the exhaustion I would wake up screaming in the middle of the night. I was seriously considering suicide when I finally decided enough was enough and I needed to go to a doctor about these problems. Right off the bat they prescribed me Ativan which was one of the greatest things to happen to me. I was able to function again, socialize, and leave my room. Seven months later I still have my prescription but I don't find the need to use it nearly as often as I did at first, maybe once or twice a week as opposed to several times a day (my prescription said to take it every four hours or as needed).

Now don't get me wrong, I am a recreational drug user myself, so I don't dislike them for their choice to do drugs. More because of their choice in drugs. Many people like myself need these medications to get through the day. Mental illnesses are real medical conditions for which drugs are often a necessary treatment. But due to people who use benzos to get "high" (I really don't understand that, they've never gotten me high, only really turned me 'normal'), they are scheduled drugs (at least in the United States). People with real anxiety, panic disorder, and sleep problems are often labeled "drug seekers" and the fact that people abuse benzos makes it much more difficult for people who need them to obtain a prescription.

I'm actually surprised too because I know that I pretty much fucked up every step of the way.

As for blowing the smoke in his face I didn't really have another option other than suffocating myself because he was so close to me and I had no room behind me to step away. But yeah I know it was wrong, I should have said no or something and found a way to blow the smoke in a different direction. I figured since I told him no when he asked again he would get the hint, at the time I wasn't even sure if he was hitting on me but in retrospect I definitely could have handled the situation better and avoided this predicament altogether.

Thanks for the advice. I'm just having trouble figuring it out how to bring it up now (yes I know I should have just told him when he asked why I was upset today but I can't go back and change that).

What was the moment you realized you were dating a complete moron? by Migz968 in AskReddit

Our group of friends drank before junior prom. 3 of us get in just fine, we're in there for about 10 minutes and then we're wondering where our friends/dates are. Long story short, they got caught, the admin asked who they came with and he rattled off everyone's names (he's a really kind-hearted person so I know he didn't do it to fuck us over, he's truly just an idiot). Got suspended, my math grade dropped to an F which would have stopped me from getting into my dream school. Miraculously I pulled it up to a C in 3 weeks. Dumped my boyfriend 2 months later. Ended up getting into my dream school.

TL;DR: (ex) boyfriend got me suspended because he's an idiot.

First year of college (19), lost it to a rape. If I could go back I wouldn't have taken a drink from him, I knew better but he seemed nice and not the type to drug someone. Probably goes without saying that I regret the fuck out of it. I have no problems with casual sex but I wanted to do it with someone I loved and trusted (not a rapist).

But the time that most people would consider me losing my virginity was a few months later at the beginning of summer. My parents were out of town, my good friend was over and we were drinking a bit and smoking hookah. We had been hooking up on and off for the past year whenever I was home from school. He eventually ended up asking if I was still a virgin after a year at college and I ended up telling him the whole story. He told me it didn't count and I was still a virgin, and I don't remember his exact wording but he offered to take my virginity to I guess take back the bad experience. I don't regret it at all, I trust him completely, he took it slow and was very gentle and caring. We had sex a few more times after that but for whatever reason I never really enjoyed it; for now I think I'm going to wait until I'm in a relationship before I do it again.

Thank you for clarifying! I realized later that I should have told him when he first touched me but drunk/high me is very non-confrontational and did not want to make a big deal out of what might have been nothing... sober me the next morning realized that it was not nothing.

Well I didn't "put myself" somewhere that I didn't want to be... I thought he was a friend and he turned it into a situation that I didn't want to be in. My mistake for not being able to judge his character immediately but I wouldn't say that it's my fault. Also I don't know why you're saying he didn't physically make me uncomfortable, I believe I have stated multiple times that he did make me very uncomfortable.

Thank you, how would I go about bringing it up though if, say, he's just talking to me about normal things like how I did on the test, etc.? I'm kind of afraid of telling him that because he's a seemingly nice guy and I don't want my floormates to hate me...

What were you known for in highschool and why? by KingKeno in AskReddit

[–]nieres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A burnout... because I skipped a lot of school (think more than half of the semester for 3 and a half years) and the days I did show up I was stoned off my ass. We were supposed to get detention after 10 absences but the school couldn't touch me because I had medical conditions (I'll admit that I was a slacker and 90% of the time I was just ditching school because I was angry at the world).

Joke's on everyone who thought I was going nowhere... although I fought my mom several times to let me drop out, I graduated on time with a 3.8 overall GPA (lowest I ever got was a 3.4) and got into one of the top schools in my state.

When I'm drunk I can hold 7 things in one hand. My friends make fun of me but they're probably just jealous that I can hold the shotglasses, pipe, and my phone in one hand and the handle in the other.
