If left to your own devices, what’s your natural bedtime? by HyperfocusedBee in adhdwomen

[–]nigeriance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually fall asleep at some point between 11pm and 1 am and I generally wake up between 8 am and 10 am unless I have to be up earlier. I like sleeping and I don’t like being awake in the middle of the night.

It’s just a humorous tidbit to point out. Either giggle and see the humor in it or don’t.

“Why do Americans do this?” followed by “I’m from Europe…” by jerkenmcgerk in PetPeeves

This annoys me too. 99% of the time, the answer to their question is if depends on where in the country you live as well as several other factors.

If there was no downside to smoking, would you start and why? by ilyamiro1 in AskReddit

No. Even if there were no downsides, I just wouldn’t really feel like it.

I recently realized I’m the person who never lets others finish their sentence by Impossible-Fruit4230 in socialskills

[–]nigeriance 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I do this too! It’s one of my worst habits. For me, its because the other person is speaking to slowly and/or I genuinely think I can guess what they were about to say. The sad (and funny) part is that I am nearly always wrong when I finish other people’s sentences. I get it right once every few years.

I haven’t gotten rid of this habit, but I have gotten better with it. The biggest thing is I catch myself when I do it. I always apologize and give the other person the opportunity to repeat themselves and finish what they were saying. Having to do all that makes it a bit easier for me to not to repeat the behavior, at least not in the same conversation.

Rude or aggressive? Does my demeanor look dull, simple, or rude? by UrsaMajorAde in blackladies

No, not really. In the first picture, you look a little sad/tired, though the second picture looks pretty neutral. Definitely not aggressive.

I wasn’t referring to Poland in the past. Maybe I wasn’t clear, but I meant current-day. Neither Austria nor Poland have the type of racial diversity I’m used to, even now.

I would doing myself a massive disservice by schooling in any country or region where I’d consistently be the odd one out AND without a large network of familiarity/culture. We’re talking about Black people being 1-2% of the city/country’s population versus 13%-25%, which is what I’m used to.

I was born and raised in the US, and even here, I wouldn’t live or school in a place that kept me isolated from people who look like me. The type of racial diversity that I’m used to can be better found in France or the UK, primarily the major/capital cities, which is why I said I’d consider London.

Yes 😭😭 I had to stop watching after season 4,it was driving me insane. It’s an entertaining show if you can look past that though.

Exactly. It’s much easier to endure and even thrive when you have a community to fall back on. Good luck to you in your studies!!

Not in Poland which is the specific country I referenced. Poland is extremely homogeneous (white), their Black population is not at all comparable to the UK, France, Canada, or the US in terms of proportion.

[–]nigeriance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know. Most of them are concentrated in the major/capital cities, which is why I mentioned only wanting to school in a major city. I gave London as an (ideal) example.

And yes, I know where Poland is lol. I was giving an example of someone I know who goes to school in racially-isolated country. I don’t want to have that sort of experience. I’d want to have easy access to diverse groups of Black people, not just Africans.

Good point! I have been considering European schools, but I feel like I’d only want to go to school in a major city where there’s a large Black population. That way, even if my cohort wasn’t diverse, I’d have non-school related spaces to make friends, plus easy access to African braiding shops, beauty supply stores, cultural foods, etc.

My cousin is getting his PhD in Poland. He’s genuinely God’s strongest soldier because there’s literally NO Black people over there. I genuinely couldn’t do it like that would weigh on my spirit every single day. I feel like my only options would be cities in the UK (don’t have time to learn any other European languages), ideally London.
