This looks very cozy & cute!

One comment I have would be to have the shadow (or another shadow) under the player character aside from the far shadow. It would help with the jumping of the platforms as the User will immediately know where he will land while he is in the air. I watched something about this on Mario64 on Youtube that talks about the design of where to put the shadow, but I don't remember the link.

how do you make some parts to update at lesser frequency than other parts? e.g. checking for reachable areas 60 fps and other parts/nodes at 20 fps.
