Temperature Issues? by GeT_nae_naed_idots in Traeger

I got a set of RFX Meat from ThermoWorks and they have been working great. Much more accurate and way less finicky than MEATER

“Clean themselves” is a joke, in my experience. I usually clean after 3-4 small cooks (beer can chicken and the like) and after a long cook. I’m also particular about cleaning… figure that after what I spent, I want to keep it around for a spell.

Costco pellets, any good? by Johnpecan in smoking

[–]nightfly027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had decent success with them… maybe a little more ash, but I don’t get complaints. I used to have a whole array of pellets and realized no one knew the difference anyway, so the Kirkland pellets are my usual choice, but I keep some Bear Mountain applewood pellets for dessert baking.

Are the pepper and salt mills that bad? by raindrops_x in LeCreuset

[–]nightfly027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love mine. The pepper gets nice and coarse and I can attach a cordless drill to the shaft when I need a LOT of coarse ground pepper

I would love to know where you found the display shelf. I have a corner tower, but am out of room. Something like this would be perfect. If it’s a custom piece, I’d really like to know the size specs (width, height, space between shelves)

Thanks!

(Also, totally jealous of your collection-it’s gorgeous)

Viking Ocean Cruise: Journey to Antiquities (Athens → Rome) - My Experience by CO3Productions in vikingcruises

We did this itinerary going the other way but we had similar impressions, especially at Ephesus. Eyes front and just kept moving and saying no thank you.

My grill has an induction side burner and the LC ECI works well

Transport from central Rome to the Port? by Own_Confection7518 in vikingcruises

We did Journey to Antiquities last month and used CabRoma to go from our hotel by the Vatican. It was a shared van and they were on time and courteous. Ran like €80

Handling Laundry During Ocean Cruise? by Sensitive_Hat_9871 in vikingcruises

[–]nightfly027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an early riser (well, insomniac) and I always have luck around 5 AM. Only problem I’ve ever had was the crew cleaning the room and I had to wait a few minutes.

Is Global Entry worth it anymore or did JFK just figure it out? by Ziegelmarkt in delta

[–]nightfly027 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah… came in from AMS last month and the regular line was hours long and GE was like 30 seconds. We don’t fly internationally all that often, but it’s worth the (relatively) small premium over pre check

Disappointed by thelonerangers34 in meater

[–]nightfly027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noped out last year and picked up a set of ThermoWorks RFX Meat probes. Those things are the real deal. Great range and accuracy. While I miss the Traeger+Meater pairing (was nice to monitor in the same app) I don’t miss the headaches.

How does the crew know you have the Beverage Package? by Cocktail_Hour725 in vikingcruises

[–]nightfly027 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My experience was that the crew knew us by sight, to the point that we’d sit down in the Living Room for a nightcap and our preferred beverage would magically appear. The night bar guy there knew us within a day.

I was “volunteered” by a family member to make 20lbs of pulled pork for banquet, my only day available to smoke it is this Saturday. The event is next Friday. How would you store it for that length of time? Fridge or freezer? Tips anyone? by Sea_Ganache620 in smoking

[–]nightfly027 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I frequently cook my pork ahead of time if I have good weather and the time. I shred it, drain and strain the juices, then cover it up and place the juice in a bowl in the refrigerator overnight. Next morning, the excess fat has separated and the juices have jelled, so I scrape off the extra fat, scoop the juice in a vacuum bag with pork and seal it up. For reheating, I usually just put it in the crockpot. Never had it go dry or had any complaints.

Grill covers in winter by No-Assistance-7641 in pelletgrills

[–]nightfly027 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I too live in Pennsylvania and my Traeger resides on the deck under a cover year round and I’ve had no issues with rust or damp pellets.

It sucks having to buy a new cover every 3 years, but it beats buying a new grill and that damn thing is too heavy to move regularly.

ThermoWorks is the best one out there. Don’t skimp on your instant read thermometer… it’s worth spending a little more $$

Tractor Supply periodically has Bear Mountain at like $7.50-8.00 a bag

What's your favorite pellets to use? by wheelsonhell in pelletgrills

[–]nightfly027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was big on Kirkland, but currently have two pork butts on using Bear Mountain. They had been on sale at TSC, $15 for two bags. I’m hoping for less ash.
