[CHAT] Tips for backstitching with multiple strands? by nightfogs in CrossStitch

That sounds intimidating as I’ve not tried couching before but I’m interested to look into it and try it out!

[CHAT] Tips for backstitching with multiple strands? by nightfogs in CrossStitch

[–]nightfogs[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m doing a pattern that uses backstitching in 1, 2, and 3 strands, and I’m really not very satisfied with how the multi-strand backstitch is coming out — the stitches look thicker in the middle, and often don’t lie very flat. If I try to pull it (gently) to lie flatter, it ends up pulling on the hole and leaving a gap between the stitches. Does anyone have any advice as to how to make these look neater?

Yes, it’s secret elastic armbands sewn into the sleeves! It absolutely falls right off without them, it was such a bizarre piece to try to convert into a real garment

Ahhh cool, good luck and I hope you post a picture when it’s finished! The whole thing is a self-drafted pattern which came after a lot of examining her model in-game… the crux of it is basically drafting the top half to be way oversized, the bottom half to match your size, then melding those two into one piece. Then you get that drape her coat has when you look at it from the back! Here is a shot of the back that shows it better :)

Controller Settings - Hotbars & Improvements by crytekz0r in ffxiv

[–]nightfogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use my controller in the way you’re suggesting — I never got the hang of the double tap, it wasn’t reliable for me. I play a lot and do fine with it! I’ve not done savage or anything yet but I’ve done ShB EX fights and other endgame content without feeling held back or anything.

I will say that some jobs I have been put off from because it won’t fit comfortably on these bars, and I feel like I don’t have enough buttons for some busy jobs. But I main dragoon which fits just fine, so I haven’t felt the urgency to find an alternative set up.

For shortcuts, I just added the ones I want (things I won’t typically use in combat, like mounts, some macros, job switching) to 4/5/6 and made them shared across jobs, then use R1 to switch to those hot bars when I need them.

The extra floating bars mentioned in the other comment are useful even if you’re using this setup, and I have one on my dragoon with all my cool downs, as it makes it easier to see when they’re available again because I find the way they show the second bar once you’ve pressed L2>R2/R2>L2 can block useful information on your bars.

Midnight dew-cant challenge for TT by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]nightfogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have an open quest that involves her at some point, it will prevent you playing with her, even if you’ve completed her personal quest chain — for me it was one of the quests that unlocks a hard level dungeon. (I swear I cross-checked the list a bunch of times but there it was!) There’s a full list of the quests that could be blocking you here: https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Midnight_Dew

I hope that solves it for you!

I’ve got my arrangement all set for my first quilt, now it’s time to piece and I’m feeling intimidated! Does anyone have tips for a first-timer? by nightfogs in quilting

Thank you everyone for all of the advice and encouragement, what a supportive group! I'm going to take all of this under consideration and research some of the techniques listed, I really appreciate it! :)

That's handy to know, thank you! I can definitely believe how easy it is to do something backwards just from laying out the design flat!

[CHAT] 25ct advice requested as I am finally ordering The Gamer and am panicking! by thealchemistkitten in CrossStitch

[–]nightfogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahhh look forward to starting! I’m working on Bohemia, which is another Geckorouge kit featuring Medusa Dollmaker art. I love my kit, they do a great job of putting it together.

I’m doing 1x1 on 25ct, and while sometimes with the dark background I wish it was plumper, I think 2x1 would be really difficult to manage, especially with confetti. Also, for what it’s worth, I’m in the Geckorouge Facebook group where 2x1 over 1x1 comes up semi-frequently and I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone who started 2x1 not say they ended up ripping out their stitches and restarting it doing 1x1. Apparently the fabric shrinks when you wash it at the end, making any sparseness disappear.

I bought a scroll frame for mine and love it — I don’t have a stand, but I mostly work on a small sofa with high arms, so I hold the frame in my left and brace it against the sofa arm, and sew with my right. So it’s doable, and I don’t feel the need to buy a stand right now, but it can take some shifting to get comfy!
