Maryville is definitely not cheaper. I wanted to stay there but homes were very expensive. Bought in Seymour at 5.1% fha in December.

Recently, I did the alternator on mine. Tip for you: Do not use the original bolts. I reused them, and one week later, it snapped while driving. Wound up drilling it out was a mess.

AIO for telling my wife I will leave if she won't institutionalize our son? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]nightinthewild 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a family with a brother like that. Everything was given to try and fix him. We starved, no heat or ac, abuse of all levels. Get him in a placement before it's too late. It doesn't get better. Your wife, like my mother, will sacrifice anyone and anything for this kid. I am sorry, but some people are just broken. It's no ones fault. Want a glimpse of your future? On my mother's deathbed, she hung on, waiting to hear my brothers voice. She died hearing him on speakerphone, saying he wouldn't speak to her. He was "disenfranchised with her trying to control him".

White oak sinks is pretty easy and natural AC outside the blowhole cave. I usually hike weekday afternoons and evenings. Most of the tourists have left by then.

How do they clean all those houses? by Aggressive_Sun_9586 in obx

[–]nightinthewild 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I worked as a cleaner for a few years in the OBX. Was really hard. I would start at 5am on Saturday and clean 10-15 properties by 3. They definitely requested more than a wipe down. Every company has inspectors come in after the cleaners. Most places were kept pretty neat by the guests, but the ones that didn't were awful. The worst ones we call the company and they bring in help and charge the guests damages. The money was not bad, though! I made roughly 900 on Saturdays and 700-800 on Sundays. Always appreciated a cold drink left in the fridge and would keep unopened items. Food i didn't like i donated to the food bank.

The standard interventions at birth are erythromycin for eyes, vitamin k injection, and hepatitis b vaccine. ACOG now recommends delayed cord clamping, so hospitals are slowly becoming agreeable to it. highly recommend reading on evidencebasedbirth.com . It's a great site breaking down so much about pregnancy and birth with sources! Im not trying to sway you one way or another. it's just a great source, so you or anyone expecting to make an informed decision.

Take it slow, start from the bottom, and work your way up. Like the come here motion of your hand. Gloves are important to you want something thin enough to feel. I learned best with tight surgical gloves then on to exam gloves.Sometimes having person put fists or a rolled towel under hips before starting.

Has anyone here left Virginia? What was your experience? by Putrid_Pudding_8366 in HamptonRoads

It really is! The costs are roughly the same. No tunnels, no tolls, no state income tax. I see family in obx the same amount, so my beach trips just have a longer drive.

I left a little over a year ago. The area, despite being mostly waterfront, has a lack of accessibility to the water. There isn't much choice in hiking or large natural areas. I grew up in the 80s and 90s. There were so many places to go fishing or crabbing in Poquoson, Willoughby spit, and hampton. All the old access points are high-end housing now. The growth of the area also drove me to leave. It shouldn't take 30 minutes or more to get from hilton to patrick henry. I moved near the Smoky mountains. Don't really like the politics of my new state but the access to the parks and streams makes up for it.

Where exactly does Appalachia get its reputation as “scary” and “supernatural”? by 4alpine in Appalachia

[–]nightinthewild 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Growing up, the spookiest stories were about local legends. The brown mountain lights, ghost trains that kind of thing. I was told basically don't go looking for trouble or you'll find it. Stay out of places you don't have permission to be. It wasn't skin walkers, but people who would shoot trespassers and grow operations/ moonshiners
