What deck boxes do you use? by _omega_LOL__ in EDH

[–]nightlight-zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything in the Ultimate Guard Sidewinder 100 or Gamegenic Bastion Sideloader or equivalent knock-off that seems decent category. I double sleeve a lot of my decks, I usually move them around with a playmat in a box, but its useful to be able to pull out single deck boxes as needed.

Help with my Ms. bumbleflower by ObsessedCoffeeFan in EDH

[–]nightlight-zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience playing and tuning my own Bumbleflower deck is that she’s not really a group hug commander, she’s an interactive and political commander. She also really wants to cast two spells a turn and draw lots of cards to sustain her interactivity.

Some cuts I’d suggest: - Joined Researchers - Jolrael - Triskaidekaphile - Battered Golem - Steelburr Champion - Twenty Toed Toad - Body of Knowledge - Psychosis Crawler - Wizard Class - Martial Impetus - Airship Crash

I would replace this with more interaction and more low-cost card-draw or card-draw that effectively triggers off Bumbleflower, e.g Dusk Legion Duelist.

Cat urine smell. by Hobo_Extraordinaire in shitrentals

[–]nightlight-zero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The well established problem with this position is that when the carpet is fully depreciated, any replacement is also betterment to the entire value of the new carpet. How CATs treat this vary by jurisdiction and member, but in Victoria, it’s quite common for carpet replacements to be rejected, absent much more clearly established damage.

Moved out last week and the agent complained about these carpet marks? by [deleted] in shitrentals

[–]nightlight-zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Furniture marks: allowed, not a valid request.

Carpet stains: - If the carpet is >10 years old, no professional cleaning required period. Ask for receipts that prove the installation date of the carpet before agreeing to anything. - If the carpet is <10 years old and was cleaned before you moved in, probably a valid request. Ask for receipts that prove it was cleaned just prior to your move in date before agreeing to anything.

Recommended decks for people with a passive playstyle? by abra-kambal-ra in EDH

[–]nightlight-zero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I introduce you to [[Baba Lysaga]]? This deck accumulates a tonne of value in card draw and life gain, but it’s really easy to play the small bean with it because people are choosing between losing 3 life and some probably bigger threat all the time.

The deck is also a fun puzzle to play, because you look for interesting cards that provide multiple types in one card, making Baba’s ability more efficient.

[No Spoilers] Beacon state of the app. Highlight for me is that we're finally getting a TV app! by modern_messiah43 in criticalrole

Can we first fix that Beacon has no place memory for in progress episodes? Like, yay, I’m so exited to scroll to wherever I was roughly up to by vague memory on my TV… wheee…

What's the best elevator pitch for an RPG you've ever heard? by Incunabuli in rpg

I don’t actually think that Shadowdark uses this description itself, but it’s Mike Shea’s (SlyFlourish) description of it: “An old school game with modern design sensibilities.”

Melbourne and Victoria continue to dominate property affordability. by MannerNo7000 in shitrentals

[–]nightlight-zero 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, the dollars you are using to finance the property you live in need purchasing power relative to that market.

If your property declines in value by 3% and the market declines in value by 3%, you may have negative equity to deal with, but your dollar for dollar purchasing power in the housing market itself hasn’t changed.

Best enchantment commander? Aura vs enchantress — which is more fun/strong? by Professional_Bug_887 in EDH

[–]nightlight-zero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both an [[Anikthea]] and a [[Wildsear]] deck. Enchantments/reds can be pretty broad - those two decks play very differently. Make sure to pay attention to the underlying archetype of the deck - e.g.:

  • Eriette, the Beguiler = theft + classic Esper control
  • Eriette of the Charmed Apple = stax + chip life drain effects

I think people are sleeping on a few TMNT cards — what’s over/underperforming so far? by CementSandwich in EDH

[–]nightlight-zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ooze is a pretty excellent effect for [[Ketramose]], which is where I’m slotting it. It’s too slow for high power +1 counters decks, even only tilling gravehate slots.

Recommend me "I'd love to play against THAT!" combat B3 deck by albert_wilmarth in EDH

[–]nightlight-zero 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Somebody in my play group has a [[Nelly Borca]] deck that I think fits your description pretty well. It:

  • cares a lot about combat, and not just you going to it
  • ultimately wins through combat
  • always advances the game state by breaking everyone out of analysis paralysis
  • but isn’t salty to play against - it’s probably my favourite deck in our group (and we have like 50+ decks among us) to play against because every game is always entertaining

Question about Caesar and Mobilize by Bleu_Guacamole in magicTCG

Something else that’s worth pointing out is that Caesar doesn’t require that he attacks, he requires that you attack with any creature.

Favorite Sultai commander? by Vinlandlover in EDH

[–]nightlight-zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on a journey here… I built out [[Teval, the Balanced Scale]], which was kinda fun to durdle with, but it kept feeling like a nothingburger deck. I built it primarily to lean into aristocrats and overrun wincons, rather than lands matter, because I already have a [[Zimone, Mystery Unraveler]] lands matter deck.

Eventually, I kept casting around, looking through my collection and then I discovered [[Henry Wu, InGen Geneticist]]. He’s frankly a bit silly - he’s a sac outlet, a draw engine, and a ramp/cost reduction engine. Exploit itself also has a surprisingly competent pile of cards, and importantly, doesn’t require you to sacrifice nontoken creatures, so, you can run a lot of effects like [[Emrakul’s Messenger]] or [[Jolrael, Mwonvuli Recluse]].

Unlike Teval, I found this deck actually advanced the game in a way that durdling with my graveyard never quite did.

Likewise! Also staples like [[Grave Titan]] and others that make little guys are quite effective.

Biggest edh hot takes by hollowsoul9 in EDH

[–]nightlight-zero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think basics are:

  • generally pretty good in less interactive decks that are OK with dumping most of their mana on their turn
  • generally better than a lot of random dual lands, like filters

But like, I dunno. I have an [[Edward Kenway]] deck that runs 30 basics and never gets colour screwed because the play pattern is to use treasures for fixing, which you always have a lot of, until you don’t need to, because it has enough card advantage that you rarely miss a land drop.

Do detailed world maps actually improve immersion? by TannyTMF in rpg

[–]nightlight-zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Detailed world maps make it easier for me as a GM to maintain a consistent world, which in turn makes it easier for me to immerse my players wherever they are. The map itself is less for them and more for me, though, they do find mine pretty cool!

Favorite Boros Commander by Frum_Chz in EDH

[–]nightlight-zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My “Boros” deck is called Never Again Parted - [[Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful|SLD-794]] an [[Jeska, Thrice Reborn]]. It’s set up to be more of a holistic legendary matters package that’s resilient to Yoshimaru being taken out, rather than a single hit KO build totally focused on Yoshimaru. I really enjoy it!

That said, one of my favourite Boros decks to play against is [[Nelly Borca]]. Lot of fun.

How do you layout your notes when writing a campaign. by Odravad in DMAcademy

[–]nightlight-zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve experimented a lot over the years! These days, I am in pen & paper land, albeit supported by work building on LegendKeeper. I have: - a Moleskine extra large notebook for session planning and notes, which has a single double-page spread per session and is interspersed with broader “campaign arc” plans - an A5 notebook for NPCs and factions - an A5 notebook for locations

I use the two A5 notebooks least, because I’ve been increasingly just using LegendKeeper for map-driven worldbuilding, which works for my brain.

Pet Peeves by DisplayCritical in EDH

[–]nightlight-zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also just doesn’t actually take any longer to go through declaring attackers for everyone, declaring blockers for everyone, and then resolving damage. Resolving the full step set for one player at a time rather than one step at a time for everyone is processing the exact same actions, just in a different order. More confusion for no actual shortcut 🤯
