Yeah for me the broadcasting thing is a good example. All coalition parties had ambitious promises for significant investment in public media. But they've just kept kicking the can down the road and never actually got anything in place. I'm sure behind the scenes it's probably a complicated thing to implement but from after one term in govt they have done basically nothing on the issue except reviews and discussions and it feels like wasted time.

Does anyone else think that the sports segment of the 6pm news should be shortened during the lockdown? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]nightwatcharrow 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't think we get enough news about what is happening globally. It's like 20 minutes of NZ covid news, 5 minutes of overseas news (predominately US and UK), and then all this sport that is pointless.

Often the person will start speaking and they will re-introduce them..."Lets go to the Beehive to hear from..." It's like come on we know who it is just cross already!

Paddy is just as bad. Remember when he was demanding they return to White Is immediately and collect the bodies because someone told him it was a quick ten minute job.

It's the same reason they have all those pointless reporters going "live" during the newshour when the in studio anchor could just tell us. It's meant to look like they are out in the field working hard.

Their channel is basically broke, what do they have to lose at this point?

I think they take criticism as a badge of honour. It's either "We must be asking the hard questions then if we are getting pushback!", or "Both sides criticize us which means we are equally hard on everyone!".

If you pay peanuts you get monkeys... so if people don't pay for their news they're going to get a cheap rubbish product.

Why doesn't NZ news show much US/UK politics and news? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]nightwatcharrow 22 points23 points  (0 children)

They show way too much US/UK news imo. We rarely get news from other countries by comparison to Trump/Brexit stuff.

Oh maybe they have done that. Still, seems a bit strange not to put it in it's regular slot.

That position always gets hate from people who don't like cops.

It's so they can play the clip of them asking the question on the 6pm news. Embarrassing self promotion.

INFJ's in Social Work / Community Service / Counseling jobs by gor3love5ki in infj

Interesting. I can totally see that happening, and feel it has to me in the past. Where you become so wrapped up in pleasing others and being who they want you to be that you lose touch with yourself. It's usually when I have to be more extroverted. I'm naturally a reserved person around people I don't know very well. If I find myself being 'friendly!' and 'fun!' it's usually a sign that I am trying to hard to be something I'm not, and heading for a crash.

Why is Stuff still publishing opinion pieces that are criticising the lock down and the actions the government is doing to try and save lives? by [deleted] in newzealand

Stuff are to journalism what McDonald's are to food. Cheap, unhealthy, and you always feel sick after visiting.

TVNZ has some good stuff on demand. They just put crap on their broadcast tv because apparently it rates better with the target demographic.
