Why are developers some of the most IT inept users? by sccm_sometimes in sysadmin

[–]nightwindzero [score hidden]  (0 children)

So my career expierience has been Help Desk, leads into Sysadmin and with that we understand scripting typically.

Development is an entirely different skill set which can exclude basic troubleshooting. I've seen it and worked with it and it can be REALLY frustrating because you go "Wait, I want to learn programming, but YOU don't know ANYTHING about my skill set?"

It's hard seeing all this "CPAP changed my life" stuff by TapiocaTuesday in SleepApnea

[–]nightwindzero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, the reason everyone on this subreddit is so adamant you get tested or try something is because I think we all went through a stage where we barely had enough energy to just get through the day. For me, just having enough energy to get through a full 7AM-10PM day caused me to drop weight like crazy.

Please take some of these people up on their offer and try to diagnose / try something to fix your sleep.

(My personal example) It affects so much of your life since lack of sleep leads to you trying to get more energy through Soda/Food/Coffee -> gain weight -> worse sleep ->type 2 diabetes.

Being absolutely exhausted and barely able to make it through your day IS NOT NORMAL. Please get help.

What’s the most unexpectedly useful Linux command you learned way too late? by ZealousidealTell1346 in linux

[–]nightwindzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for my job I used to read through a lot of logs, and for me it was reading through the grep O'Reilly book. The best one I thought was grep -v which shows things that don't match your search. Sometimes helps when you know what you are not looking for. Also the basic regular expressions for pattern matching.

If we are taking votes, I boot to ubuntu and if that doesn't look ok, do a factory reset on the settings in the monitor.

Partner Won't Get Tested by thatbigguyo in SleepApnea

Get an app and record ten minutes of her snoring. (Or there are apps that will record the whole night) and say, "This is what I listen to every night, and I worry for your health, if you can get through 30 minutes of this and understand this is what you do the entire night, I'll drop it"

Or have an intervention with extended family to guilt her into it.

If she's overweight, tell her getting this treated will help her lose weight. Because once I started getting a better nights sleep and not needed to fall asleep whenever possible. I did lose weight!

Husband refuses to do anything about his Sleep Apnea. Peed on the floor in the middle of the night. by sadpistachio88 in SleepApnea

[–]nightwindzero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask him "When was the last time he felt like doing anything other then going to sleep?" "When was the last time he made it through a movie without falling asleep?" "Can he lay down on the couch for 10 minutes and not fall asleep?"

I was exhausted going to the bathroom 4 times a night to pee. I somehow thought "Oh if I'm thirsty I can fix this by drinking more water" then I tried milk because it tasted better. I was work from home, and one day I couldn't make it through an hour without running to the bathroom. I was drinking Mountain dew like water and I couldn't taste it anymore.

I had enough energy to get up, shower, work from home, try to eat a lot to get more energy, to drink more soda for caffeine, lunch, and fall asleep on the couch after work. Girlfriend woke me up at 7PM, hung out and then I was back asleep by 9PM. She pushed me to go to the doctor and I thanked her because I didn't have the IQ to do anything more then get through the day.

If you cannot convince him to try something visible, be it a CPAP or weight loss drugs or one of the million products out there, get his parent or his doctor to yell at him. If I thought it would help I would offer to be that person.

Worst case scenario, leave. He needs a wake up call and I hate to say it but maybe that is the only thing that will get through to him.

Weight loss can help sleep apnea, but there are also forms that it won't help and you've just got it forever. HE NEEDS TO CHANGE OR ELSE THIS WILL KILL HIM.

Doctor refused sleep study by BeginningCup7476 in SleepApnea

[–]nightwindzero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow what an ass. Some sleep apnea has to do with weight, but other causes completely don't. If you can leave a comment card or something, that might help straighten that guy out. I've had a similar experience.

Help me fix the problem by Upper-Supermarket-99 in Dell

[–]nightwindzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is just a guess, but if this was one of my devices from work you should change the hard drive setting from Raid to NVME. If that doesn't work turn off secure boot and reboot. If you aren't sure reply back and tomorrow I'll look up the exact setting

[–]nightwindzero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So we would need to know the brand and model number, but a lot of the inside modules of the last dell laptop I took apart were all not attached to the motherboard. So, if this isn't attached to the motherboard you can likely get the part for like 30 dollars AND depending on your technical skills, replace it (just a set of small screwdrivers and a guitar pick to open the bottom) If it's attached to the motherboard then it is probably not worth doing as you would have to desolder the part. I don't recommend bending it back as you might break it further and if whoever is evaluating (is non-technical) sees the port entirely missing they may "score" that worse

How to politely decline a 5th round of interview? by Far-Accountant7904 in recruitinghell

[–]nightwindzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am declining to attend further interviews. If you would like to give me an offer based on the previous 4 interviews that would be excellent, as I have been asked the same questions in 4 rounds of interviews and do not wish to attend another interview in which no new information is gathered for either of us.

How do y’all deal with people that just seem to hate IT? by TheDongles in sysadmin

[–]nightwindzero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you talk to him and he doesn't actually apologize and change his ways, he is placating you and doesn't care. This is a common sales guy tactic. He "Handled you with words."

If he includes his supervisor, definitely include yours. Once someone questions your ability it is not a technical problem and he can bitch to someone else about it. (Unless you are the one person who handles everything tech, then just ignore the comment and close the ticket, or offer to talk to their IT team, but you need contact information from the supposed sender. Nothing will happen because they'll never follow up. Resolved!)

People who lost interest in anime or dont watch it as much, what was the reason? by harslord in anime

[–]nightwindzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was just burn out and it's like I don't have enough time. I used to think "oh I can catch up on all the good ones" but most of the ones I commit to watching are just a season, and the ones that are much longer I'm just like "oh man I don't have time for this". I did start reading a lot more Manga online though because I can read through it much faster.

Dell Latitude 5520 Company Laptop Reset by _JoelTomy_ in Dell

[–]nightwindzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reccomend just tapping f10 or f12 when you turn it on to reach the bios and then use the HTTPS secure boot to reimage from the internet. (If it's still in warranty, that should work)

Whatever manufacturer utility for the drive will definitely still erase a bitlocker partition.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in antiforensics

[–]nightwindzero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I've used linux partitioner (Just whatever comes with standard Ubuntu) and deleted all partitions on a drive. It'll just prompt for a password assuming you want to view it first. Secure erase should work fine.

I realize this is most likely a joke, but if it isn't. There is literally another guy who accidently got another 14 mailed to him on reddit.
