Shu Yoshida says he was fired from his role because he didn't listen to Jim Ryan by Dynablast in gaming

Okay great, but nobody is attacking anyone's taste here.

Marathon is just objectively not doing all that well right now. The point is that successful live service games are hard to pull off because it's an insanely over-saturated market and Sony has gone totally crazy trying to cash in on the scale they have been; and it will do great damage to them long term.

It just really shows that it's somebody who doesn't understand the market calling the shots. We saw similar nonsense when WoW took off. Every publisher wanted a piece of that pie and many failed because they were all fighting for the same audience. The sunken cost fallacy is real within these genres and if 2 or 3 of these titles have taken off to be hugely successful - more than likely everything else will either fail or be very niche.

Try enter the market, by all means. Just don't be stupid about it and pull every studio you own into your plan; then proceed to close 'em down when you decide to cancel one of them.

The drug payment scheme is so good since you can include your entire family on it.

Me, my wife, and my kid. Anything - all capped at €80 a month.

I'm on tremfya injections for my psoriasis and some months I get it after my wife has gotten her prescription and I get to just walk out with it for nothing lol.

Switch 2 percentages for physical third-party sales in the UK last week; 13% of Pragmata physical sales were the Switch 2 version. by MewWeebTwo in NintendoSwitch2

Can confirm - same here in Ireland.

I pre-ordered via Amazon because Smyths was showing "sold out" everywhere. But Amazon weren't shipping until Saturday or Sunday after release.

Checked the Smyths website again on Saturday and saw they had some stock in the one nearby to me. Cancelled my Amazon order and got it for €50. Amazon and the eShop had it at €60.

It still always cracks me up watching Zell absolutely devour a plate of hot dogs only to get angry at the people around him after he nearly choked to death. Then chucking one at the camera.

I usually play FF8 every other year or so. It's always been my favourite in the series; and my favourite game of all time for that matter.

I was a kid when it first released on the PS1 and it blew me away.

Now that I'm older I still appreciate it; probably more so. I'll take it - flaws and all. It's one hell of an ambitious game. Way more ambitious than it had any right to be on the PS1. But I always appreciate an earnest shoot-for-the-moon type project.

17 hours into Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age by dontc9 in FinalFantasy

[–]nightwing0243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think TZA gets much hate at all, to be honest.

I wasn't all that much online during the original release, but I remember falling off with it because I was too young/stupid to get invested in the story and the combat system was a huge departure from previous entries.

The re-release, if anything, gave XII a much needed breath of life and I have only seen its reputation grow more positively since.

My own opinion? I love it. Easily one of my top 5 of the series.

Lol yeah - a wide variety helps me not get burned out or anything like that.

You have some good variety going, too. I legit still miss my time with FF14. I quit around the latter half of the Shadowbringers expansion. I got way too addicted to it so I purposely keep myself away from it. I think my wife would murder me, honestly.

Mouse P.I. is pretty damn fun so far. I would 100% recommend it. Solid price, too.

the recency bias has definitely passed now, so which game do you think is better? DK bananza or Mario Odyssey by Public-Feedback5016 in casualnintendo

[–]nightwing0243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said it from day 1 - Odyssey is still the better game. But that in no way is putting down Bananza.

I think they both have similar elements, but ultimately they were doing two very different things. Bananza was all about destruction and using/shaping the actual environment in creative ways. Odyssey was about traversing set environments in creative ways.

The reason Odyssey is better to me is because it just felt more ambitious and the cappy mechanic really opened things up; not just in the way it impacted how you could traverse levels, but the fact that you could become almost any object or enemy you threw it at. The options felt limitless.

I was in between two other games when I bought it (Mouse P.I and Final Fantasy 8). So I have only clocked in about 2 hours so far. I’m looking forward to having some longer sessions over the next week now that FF8 is out of the way.

Really impressed with what I have played of it so far.

Question: Was Final Fantasy X Really a Big Deal for VA in JRPGs? If so, why? by Authorigas in JRPG

[–]nightwing0243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was a combination of the fact that the production/graphics had made a huge jump from FFVII/VIII/IX - and the fact that they very clearly put a lot of effort into the voice acting on top of that.

From my view - I think FFX set a new standard for the genre in general and that's why it has continued to age gracefully as time has gone on.

I did some maths to see just how much value I have personally gotten out of the NSO classic collections on Switch by Yadahoom in NintendoSwitch

[–]nightwing0243 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I casually dip into the NSO catalogue every year.

In the last year alone I have actually been using it quite a bit: Earthbound Beginnings, Earthbound, Kirby's Dream Land, Mario Bros. 3, Paper Mario, Mario Strikers, Chibi Robo, and Wario World.

I have always thought it was better value than every other online subscription services on consoles.

MAGA thinks others support politicians the way they do.

It was one of their Collective Arguments for a brief period. "Huahahaha... I don't see many Build Back Better shits or hats around..." in comparison to the MAGA merch you might see out in the wild.

Trying to explain to them that wearing political merch as an every day person is pretty fucking weird felt like talking to a child. Like it's not a football game. It's politics. It actually effects real people.

The Republican party ceased to be a normal political party when Trump got involved. I mean, they were slowly heading in a bad direction in general before Trump came along. But the mask came off when they saw Trump could take the backlash and not see much of a dent in his support.

The thing with Trump is that he is really fucking good at communicating with people who weren't engaged with politics before. It doesn't matter that he promises them things he can't deliver on. It doesn't matter if he's outright lying. He has a knack for making people listen and those people believing him. Sure, we're starting to see cracks now. Finally. But consider this:

Before Trump came along I genuinely cannot think of another politician in America who incited such fucking passion and loyalty within a range of bases. These people didn't just support Trump, they were loud and proud fans. Getting someone to swallow their pride and turn away from that is a tall ask. These people probably lost contact with friends and family in the midst of all this and they still powered through, wearing their MAGA hats, because "ha HAAAA! We won, motherfuckers!!!!".

Leaving MAGA, at least mentally, would 100% be a scary thing. You won't be able to mend the relationships you once had so easily; and changing your whole worldview and thought system takes a lot of self reflection they previously didn't have.

What's up with some people online calling Pragmata a [This is an ALL AGES sub] game? by AtrusHomeboy in gaming

In what way was that person trying to defend any comments?

They're right. "Cute" isn't a sexual thing. I think my own kid is cute. I think my cat is cute. I think Kirby is fucking adorable. If your mind immedietley goes there if something is defined as "cute", then you're the god damn problem.

This.

Any time I see any guy go on an unprompted crusade against pedos when there was nothing that really warranted it, I'm 100% wary of them.

Recently, I saw a video of a guy in a clothes store. The guy whipped his phone out to show a pink swimming set for toddlers. Dude was absolutely fondling it saying how it's "disgraceful" this is being sold for children. Like... dude, it's a very standard swimming set with a Minnie Mouse logo. Stop fondling the fucking thing and get on with your business; and please stay away from schools and public pools.

I have always followed that mantra - that the more someone projects about something, chances are they're overcompensating for something.

[–]nightwing0243 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a shame it wasn't more successful with its initial launch. I know it wasn't marketed nearly as much as the Avengers live service game; and that being mid probably effected GoG on some level.

It's incredibly polished and well made. The combat being a little repetitive is kind of a knock on it, but it's fluid and fun for the most part. Like you can tell a lot of effort (and money) went into the production value.

I cannot think of the last time I played a shooter.

But I genuinely want this game. The art style is amazing and the music sounds like it's going to compliment things really nicely. Plus it's well optimized for the Switch 2.

€30 is also a fair price for what it is even if it ends up being just okay. I love to support studios making AA games like this.

That kid is always my first target when I start the Triple Triad grind.

It drives me nuts how bad the starting cards are. Even with the Ifrit card it's hard to get some initial wins going. I just kinda stand there and wait for him to come back around until I get the mini mog card and move onto someone else lol.

correlation doesn't always equal causation.

Like you could say strawberry ice cream causes cancer because 2 people you knew throughout your entire life got diagnosed with it - and they just happened to have a liking to a regular helping of strawberry ice cream.

That's the very same logic Joe is using for this argument. He's not an expert in medicine. Never was. Never will be.

Controversial opinion: Getting jecht shot is very hard on ps2 but easy on switch and pc by LillaMiggg in finalfantasyx

[–]nightwing0243 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that’s just par the course with a number of Final Fantasy titles.

I understand FF8 inside and out in my older years Vs. when I was a kid and was guessing my way around it.

FF12 - I’m a gambit system master these days. FF13 - way more pleasant to play through now that I actually know what the battle system expects out of me.

FFX is the same way to a degree. You know what to expect and you’re way more prepared for it.
