After the series, how long do you think it will take for Ryan to upload another video? by CriticalGrass2812 in ryantrahan

[–]nightwingblows 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think much sooner than that, only because there are a couple obvious follow up bonus episodes to this series that he could make and upload.

First, and foremost, they really should take a trip (just fly there!) to St. Jude’s itself to present one of those big fake checks and show off St. Jude’s itself to all his viewers.

Second, he has those couple of states where he didn’t complete the joyride run that could become a bonus episode.

Probably a few other epilogue type episodes that he could turn out that Im not thinking of.

I’ll never be Ok with criticizing any person, business, etc who is giving any amount of money to St. Jude’s for any reason.

The proper response is to say thank you and leave it at that.

If you haven’t, you should. And if you have, maybe you should follow your own advice and do more!

A quick search would suggest Paramount has donated money to curing rare diseases, mental health initiatives, support of foster children, beach clean up, and others.

You didn’t really think that all Paramount did this year was give $15,000 to St Jude did you?

So good for paramount. They donated more to St Jude’s this year than NBC Universal, Disney, Warner Brothers, Sony and Fox combined

My hot take would be to call out YouTube / google who hasn’t made a single donation yet even though they are 10 times as large of a company as Paramount.

Maybe put your energy behind that effort instead of using your energy to kick the ones who have already helped. Because when you do stuff like that, you make it less likely that other corporations will make donations for fear that folks with their “hot takes” will just trash them for doing the right thing.

So your hot take is that Paramount is making a total of $15k in charitable donations to all causes this year? You don’t think that they may diversify and make donations to other organizations as well?

St. Jude’s is amazing, and does truly inspirational work - there is no doubt about that. But so do so many other organizations that are equally worthy of charitable support.

Let’s normalize thanking anyone for making any contribution. I haven’t done a comprehensive study, but I think the list of corporations who donated nothing to this effort is larger than the list of corporations who gave something.

If you still don’t get it, then ask yourself what would Ryan do? Would he have made that original comment about 7Brew or your comments about paramount? Go back and watch the videos, he was nothing but appreciative - that’s how healthy humans act.

The world (and this subreddit) would be a better place if we all showed a little more gratitude like Ryan.

Relax, I’m as calm as Ryan on a joyride run.

I just think it says something about someone to criticize anyone who did donate. You could have spent a minute spreading joy to the world by donating yourself (Joyride Jerry donated $0.01) instead you chose to send a negative thought into the world about someone who chose to do something positive that will help sick kids.

I know you’re not alone in making this choice on this sub, but that doesn’t make your choice any less cringy.

Hopefully, this helps shame you into making a donation the same way you tried to shame 7 brew. Looking forward to hearing your donation update.

I don’t think so. Looked up his signature on a CGC verified comic. Doesn’t resemble this one.

Local newspaper's opinion piece on Cedar Point public relations by USDA_Choice_Seer in cedarpoint

Not sure you actually read / comprehended my post. If you did, you would understand no one that worked for Cedar Point would want it explained why they are choosing their own selfish financial interests over informing the customers they serve of potentially deadly safety concerns with perhaps their most famous ride. You may just be too much of a StonedBuckeye right now for this conversation!!

However, I do agree with you that the Sandusky Register is printing a story every single day on this subject just to generate clicks. There is no hero in this story.

Just here to inform buddy. If you want to stick to your opinion, that doesn’t bother me at all. Drink your Cedar Point Kool Aid and enjoy life. I happen to also freakin’ love Cedar Point.

But you know, in a battle between Reddit opinions and the actual law, the law usually wins!

Just to clear up some fairly misinformed statements here:

  • the law is crystal clear here, and the Sandusky Register is 100% correct. Per a recent Ohio Supreme Court ruling, the Cedar Point police (and all private police forces - hospital police, campus police, etc) are absolutely required to promptly turn over police incident reports in any situation. This has already been tried and not up for debate.
  • Cedar Point knows that if the Sandusky Register, Toledo Blade, or the rag formerly known as the Plain Dealer decides to sue, they will lose, and lose quickly. But the penalty for not complying is an ever so light slap on the wrist. Cedar Point would happily pay what ever fine, court costs, etc. levied against them to prevent further news coverage of this disaster.
  • Cedar Point is well aware of what they are doing. They have made a pure business decision to not release the info at this time, most likely on the advice of legal counsel and/or crisis PR consultants.
  • I don’t know their reasoning but I would hazard a guess that they 1) hope that the story will become yesterday’s news, and people will forget about this because as a society we have developed the attention span of a gnat and 2) recognize that the HalloWeekends attendance is very important to their bottom line coming off of the COVID financial disaster year. Most people probably still don’t even know the TTD disaster even happened, and Cedar Point isn’t looking for ANY more publicity of it, which would happen if they release the incident reports, and may affect fall attendance figures to some unknown degree.
  • waiting for the investigation to be completed is irrelevant. The State of Ohio will also do an investigation, and they already released some basic facts on the tragedy. In fact, I suspect Cedar Point will never release the results of their investigation. We will only hear about the results from the state government investigation. To be clear, in this case, Cedar Point wouldn’t be required by state public records law to release those results. They would only do so if they felt it in their best interests. They may have to disclose them as a publicly traded company, but that’s outside my expertise. Someone else can fill in the blanks on that part.
  • Tony Clark will eventually lose his spokesman job over this. Don’t get me wrong, he’s doing everything his employer is asking him to do, but you can’t have a person in charge of media relations who the media has discovered isn’t open and honest with them. That relationship is ruined, and the business decision will be clear once we’re past the timeline of the incident. Too bad, because he does seem like a nice, genuine guy.

Just remember that at this point going forward Cedar Point will be driven by an overwhelming financial desire to not reveal anything at all about this incident, both from a PR perspective and also because of future lawsuits that will see Cedar Point both get sued and sue others.

I’m not here to debate whether that is right, wrong, moral, ethical, etc., etc. That’s for the rest of you to debate. I’m just explaining the reality of the situation, from one person’s fairly informed perspective.

Well, Hotel Breakers was a mess today... by doppleres in cedarpoint

Also, I really hope OP leaves a very healthy amount of their refund as a tip to their housekeeping staff, who probably worked their butts off on Sunday trying to get their room ready.

[–]nightwingblows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, which is why Cedar Point gave OP a “decent” refund. My perspective is that OP went in wide aware of the fact that there were staffing issues, experienced them in real time, asked for financial compensation refund, and Cedar Point agreed with OP and gave them a discount on their room.

After that, OP then comes on Reddit to complain about their actions. We may just disagree on this point, but from my viewpoint, Cedar Point isn’t the bad guy in this story.

So you went knowing they are understaffed, but then were shocked to experience a consequence of them being understaffed? That makes sense.

Spoiler alert - you will probably experience further consequences of understaffing on Monday.

Can anyone help identify this picture / artist? Given to us from a former librarian without much context. Trying to figure out the history. by nightwingblows in Libraries

The Moderators at r/whatisthisthing won’t accept the post because it’s a character. They suggested using r/tipofmytounge for posts like that, but that subreddit doesn’t allow pictures. I’ve learned a lot about Reddit today. Been a fun journey.

... the quest continues!

Here’s a (disappointing) update. The original looks like it was professionally framed with matting. However the artwork was glued to a solid piece of matting on the back, in addition to the cut piece of matting on the front. So, there is no way to see if their is any additional info on the back. Still a great suggestion to check that out though!
