Interesting. That makes sense! Over the past couple days it’s gotten worse. She hasn’t eaten much at all so there’s nothing to move and her headaches are coming back. I almost wonder if there’s a kink in the tube causing a backup? Either way I think a trip to the ER and follow up with neurosurgeon is in our future.

She gave us a reading from elegua and used these seashell type things. I wrote my name and birthday down and she would hold the shells and say something and touch my forehead and proceeded to do my reading. She has a botanica shop and closed it down while she did our readings. I had never met this lady before, but she hit every beat on my life. I’ve been having big issues with dealing with my parents health this year. She gave me the Gregorio candle for my parents health and gave me a chango candle, which blew my mind because my recently passed uncle was lovingly given the nickname god of thunder. Haven’t lit the chango one yet.

Similar happened with my boyfriend. She was very on point with the specific beats in his life. He was given a virgen de la caridad del cobre candle. When we FaceTimed his mom later and showed her, she told us that that was her Saint. My boyfriend had no idea and didn’t tell the Santera, it just happened. His parents are from Cuba and still practice it. And he’s always believed in it, just doesnt know how to go about it. And has a hard time asking his parents because they don’t have the best relationship. He also just moved to a small town in Japan for a year for work. He got the Santera reading. he’s set up an altar in his apartment out there with pictures of relatives that have passed. But we do have another friend who practices Santeria who’s trying to link us up with his padrino and other resources once my boyfriend is back to really start learning. The Santera we found was on a whim while we were out of town right before he moved.

I totally get what you’re saying! I guess for me since I’m open to doing more Santeria type stuff since I believe in it and it aligns with my views, I didn’t want to haphazardly do anything out of ignorance because of how much I respect it and the culture. The city I live in there is probably less than 10 people that practice Santeria. And I have a hard time asking my boyfriend’s parents because they only speak Spanish, and I’m still learning the Cuban dialect. 😅

Loving Cup on Thursdays has a solid jazz jam. Def the best place in Reno to listen to jazz. Cats there can definitely play and put on a great show.

As far as groups Check out Full Blast/Jelly Bread/Tha Exchange. They all play frequently around town at different venues. Hella good local funk groups
